Newbie here, just checking in.

Advice and opinions please...............

I am on holiday from work at the moment, so tend to be using my RR LSE, and the company Audi is parked up on the drive sulking!

Had to go to the factory today, to collect my Xmas Turkey (every employee gets one from the company.... nice touch!)

So, parked my RR in the visitors parking bay, right next to the MD's car (Toyota Prius...... sad, very sad) and as I got out of the RR, he got out of his electric toaster and an immense feeling of smugness crept over me.........

The question is, is this normal, is it acceptable..............or I am just being a git?

Well, I guess not............. but I have a proper car and he has a toaster...... surely that's enough for the moral high-ground?

and no, I don't work for Mr Matthews (RIP) and they were Sainsbury's own brand.

For my work, I build establishments for people to stay in whilst "on her majesty's pleasure"........... if you know what I mean!!
 
You can feel smug, knowing you can drive your Rangie for another ten years at least, it will not have put out as much CO2 in it's liftime, as was generated making the Prius.

To say nothing of the emissions created by (a) manufacturing the replacement batteries it will need during it's lifetime & (b) recycling the thing at the end of it's days - the sooner the better :rolleyes:
 
It would of been a nice touch if you had pulled up in a 1948 series 1 that would have been hard to beat for environmental one up manship

Thats not actually true much as you would like to believe it.

The Prius is the equivalent of the Ford Model T for the cars of the next 20 years. The immediate future is hybrid with kinetic energy recovery systems. Its an honest car, its not the cars fault that it has been put on a pedestal. The original marketing of the car was for 2 litre performance from a 1.5 engine in a family sized car. Toyota never marketed it as the saviour of mankind, low emmisions were just part of the parcel. Others chose to use the Prius as a stick to beat SUV owners with, not Toyota

The battery recycling criticism is a red herring too. The battery is equivalent to about 1000 mobile phone batteries. How many billion mobile phones are there on the planet?

How about the size of catalytic convertor and particulate filter required to bring the latest diesels down to LEV levels. Those precious metals need to be mined and recycled too.

The original report that sparked off the myth you are propogating has been completly rebuked by industry. The report is a joke which made some outrageous assumptions to produce its skewed conclusions. A classic case of garbage in, garbage out.:doh: here is a peer review of the report if you are feeling bored:

Now excuse me, I must go out and put a new battery in my 3.9RRC. It hasn't started in a while, I think it might need new cats too, and I need it to go and tow my P38 which is broke down in town. I hope I can get it going cause otherwise I'll have to ask her in doors to drop me in her Prius. I know that'll start first time, it always does, but i don't think I could bear the CO2 cost of her driving me in. After all the RR has a much lower carbon footprint don't you know, got to think of the whales:rolleyes:

You would need a very big diesel engine to put out more CO2 than the average family car. Still reckon the Prius is a gimmick.

Just about any sub 2.5L diesel post 2000 will be better than the Prius on the open road. The latest diesels much better. The pre 2010 models are actually quite mediocre on the motorway. At 75mph it'll only do about 45mpg and is reallly not that nice at that speed, the engine just sounds strained. My brothers 520d is probably doing 65mpg and straining to be let off the leash at that speed.;)

But a gimmick it's not. In sub-urban driving it is quite brilliant. Its a family sized car that gives a genuine 50+mpg on the school run regardless of traffic. Something that never gets mentioned is just how effortless a car to drive it is, particularly in traffic. As Rangie drivers we're well used to the easy kind of driving but the Prius takes it to a new level. It's like a bumper car. Having said that you'd never accuse it of being fun to drive but few Toyotas are. And, like most Toyotas, it is soul-less but I've got the Rangie for that.:D:D
