Ok so I figure my starter solenoid is sticking, lately on a morning my 200tdi disco refuses to start. I turn the key and 'click' after a quick bash of the starter motor she'll usually turn over just fine, my question is:

A) Is the motor or the solenoid likely to be faulty?

B) Can I replace or service either of these items?

C) Is this a common problem?

did you disconnect your battery. Then undo all of the connectors of you starter and wire brush the wire end and the lug on the starter then put thin film of grease on them and then reconnect everything? that would be the first thing to do, then go from there

I would replace it ASAP, as clanging ot everytime may leave you in a very ****ty situation - had it with boat once, kept hitting it for weeks, until eventually the magnetic lining shattered and nothing would move inside ;)

the starter on my h reg 200 tdi is making odd noises as it dissengauges after starting.... will one off a 300 tdi fit?

This

And if that doesn't work, remove starter completely, take off solenoid, give it a jolly good clean inside and out and fit it all back together.

Worked for the starter on my SIII 2.25 diesel, hasn't failed me yet.

Sweet I'll give it a go then.. after I replace the rear wheel bearing that collapsed on the way home from work yesterday! :frusty: Cheers chaps!
