So, if i was to go for ARP studs, where's the best place to get these. Nearly £200 from Rimmer Bros!

well as you have new bolts n gaskets plus helicoils then fit them you will have all back together and running in a couple of hours

I wish Dave, plus there's alot of cleaning to do. At least i can fit the new Throttle Heater gasket whilst it's all off.

Fingers crossed for you then mate don't forget to make sure the bolt hole threads are completely cleaned out I always run a bolt all the way in with a bit of oil on the thread n give the bolt a clean each time even with helicoils. Then you can refit the head.

Cheers Dave,
Will do, i'm pretty anal about cleaning stuff up before putting it back. Just going to take my time on this & not try & rush it. Will be chuffed to bits with myself if this all goes well.

I'm hoping to replace my rockers tomorrow one of my Steele pads was on its way out I never should a left it this long but their a forgiving engine

Good luck with that. Hopefully fit my helicoils tomorrow & take my head to the engineering shop to get checked out. Looks good but who knows.

probably talking out my arse here as i've never done a hg on a rover v8 but does it need/did it have the head bolts rechecked after a few miles/ heat cycles?

The stretch-bolts used on the Rover V8 I believe are primarily used to eliminate the need for re-tightening. Seems a bit of a compromise but the standard fit is torque to 20NM then turn 90 degrees & 90degrees again. No need for any re-tightening.

Mine's just gone back together Martyn. And it started!

Took me a while, but I was being very careful with cleaning, and checking, and re-reading the manual. So long as you don't rush you'll get a good result I'm sure.

The stretch bolts were fine, torquing down was a bit hairy, but nothing broke. Despite what's been said on here, I was glad of my 4ft breaker bar, it allowed me to do a nice slow 90 tighten without jerking anything. I followed RAVE to the letter and it seems to have worked!

Good to hear mate, most of my time has been reading RAVE 3 times over before doing anything (& labelling every connector). My only concern is torqueing up the bolts. It looked a lot easier to do when we built the engine on the stand. In the engine bay is a different matter.

That manifold tape smokes like hell though.
If you are talking about insulating heat wrap, I found to my cost it's great at accelerating rot. Holed a tubular manifold where the 4 branch into 1 in about 2 years. Think it worked as a salt trap

Well done gorsky mate good to here its gone back as for the heat wrap iv never had an issue yes its smokes likehell on first start up but it soon burns off, keep going martny mate you will get there.

I got my rockers swopped out this morning I now have a silent engine :D:D

Good to hear, i should check mine whilst there off.
Not got anything done today ( family stuff), machine shop closed today so will take the head in on monday for checking -. But will do the helicoiling on monday & hopefully get my head back by mid week so i can crack on with refitting & put my memory (& parts labeling) to the test!

Turns out its common problem check the pads and the push rod dish on the other end some of mine had worn badly and the oil way on one was almost completed blocked
