Hi, I'm new to this forum so apologise for going straight in with a question.

I'm looking to buy a P38 at the weekend and it'll be my first Land Rover experience:)

The one i'm looking at getting looks great for me at a good price but has 1 or 2 little faults (nothing that will affect the day to day but i like things working)

It's a 98 P38 2.5D and the problems are as follows:

Fuel gauge always reads full (range and light both work)

Rear passenger window doesn't work (motor has been tested but does work)

Sunroof doesn't work (is water tight)

I've searched the forums and found a bit but would love a definitive answer on one thread. I read there's a module behind the glove box that sometimes gets dry solder issues which may affect the window?

I think the fuel gauge just needs a new module too?

I'm not too clued up and anything that involves electric is a bit of a no go with me.

Please can someone let me know if these are easy DIY fixes or if they should be fairly cheap to get done by my local land rover specialist (not main dealer)

Any feedback greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Your fuel gauge problem might be a blessing in disguise as the in-tank pumps in these are prone to fail and then cause starting problems. The official way is tank off, which also gives you the chance to clean the gunge out of the bottom of the tank. The puimp should only be about £60 - £70, labour, a couple of hours on a ramp, depends on the rust! If you fancy doing it yourself you could drop the tank or there's an excellent guide on here from CANYON showing you how to cut through the floor directly above the pump.

As for the window and sun roof I'd start at the switches, they can cause problems, new panel from a scrapper for not too many beer tokens, exchange in about half an hour.

Looking to the future can I suggest that you put a location into your details on here. There are a few of us who are willing to come along and lend a hand, eyes, ears and eat all your posh biscuits.

Thanks for the reply! I'm picking it up on Sunday and apart from these little bits it all sounds good to go. There's a great garage where i live so i'll pop down to him and i'm sure he'll have the odd bits and bobs laying around anyway!!

Location added.

Thanks for your help
