Hi, i was wondering if you got to the bottom of the... Can error fault. Currently active... Situation? I just plugged in my tool and got that code as well as a few others relating to manifold pressure/air flow etc... It's a smokey(black) Disco2 I'm trying to fix

What code reader are you using?

One problem that you're suffering is that the icarsoft device isn't that successful in use on the diesel Disco 2. The advert says that it's compatable with the Discovery 2, but what they don't tell you is that they mean only the petrol D2. The diesel D2 wasn't ever fully compliant with OBDII, it uses Land Rover's own protocols.
Regarding your black smoke problem, I don't think I can help, maybe other members such as @sierrafery or @neilly who know the electronics of the Td5 better than me might be able to throw some light on it for you.

Cheers mate. It gave descriptions (not codes) relating to aap/map etc. So unless I can find an air leak or something (sensors are OK I think) then I'm thinking it must be ecu(plugs look clean though) . I just bought some diesel ultimate, got a couple more things to try. Tomorrow I'll call JE engineering and ask if I can send it to them(they did original remap 10 years ago) to have a look. I'll try blanking off the egr to see if it makes a difference. Just trying to get it through mot so I can sell it. Apart from that it's a cracking vehicle. Cheers for your time

Ademcd, have you tried 2SO? (Two stroke oil)
Adding 2SO to the fuel tank when you fill up helps to lubricate pump etc and also seems to cut down on smoke.
I put 2SO in my tank with every top up, usually £50 worth and about 100ml of 2SO.
At 133k miles I do not even have a puff of smoke at all. Not even on start up.
I buy my 2SO in Morrisons at £2. I would put a whole bottle in,providing you h ave plenty of fuel and give it a good run. For £2 worth a try.

I bought an icarsoft lr2. An economical choice as I'm looking to sell once this problem is solved.
Unfortunately that one is completely unreliable when it comes to the Td5 engine, i know as a friend of mine has it and i compared it's readings with hawkeye, it works with other systems but not with the engine even though it connects to it the codes or live data are all erroneous

Ademcd,
Possibly teaching granny to suck eggs, but have you checked your air cleaner.?
Blocked aircleaner will cause black smoke.
Just remembered that bit.

Recently serviced, all new filters etc.

Thanks. The faults it logged- manifold pressure, ambient air pressure-do you think I can rely on those? If they are reliable do you think that could point to problem with the ECU(overfueling) There is no loss of power only a dip at 2750rpm.

But it may still be worth removing map sensor on the inlet manifold and cleaning with electrical cleaner as a dirty sensor will give black smoke symptoms.

OK cheers. I'll have to see about sending it back or selling it to someone without a td5. I thought I was getting somewhere.. Ive had it carbon cleaned, intercooler cleaned etc so must be overfueling. (I think) Trying to find out why... Hoping its not injectors. Apart from clutch on way out, air con fan ceased, abs blowing a fuse, and the black smoke...it runs great

Thanks... My next plan was to blast everything with a contact cleaner
