Somtimes get 'F4' code appearing upon start-up. Stop car, wait a few secs, start and its gone!. Anyone any idea what this code relates to?

hill descent light is also flashing the small red led to right of gear lever (i.e. sport light also comes on -even tho it is in park). I'm assuming it is an electrical system connected to the gearbox. Mine still does this sometimes have to ignition on/off 4-5 times to reset now tho!
Its getting worse but on average only happens every 2-3wks:confused:

I have the same thing goin on with the wife's 2004 Freelenader 2.5 V6. Best I can tell, the F4 just says the computer is storing fault codes in memory. I have found several different codes stored on separate instances of the F4 being displayed. You have to have a modern OBD2 scanner with vehicle specific code ability to read them.

F4 means the gearbox TCM (Transmission Control Module) has implemented its limited operating strategy (commonly called limp mode). This means the gearbox will be locked in 4th gear only (reverse is normally still available). The only way to find the cause, is to have the TCM codes read, by someone with a suitable code reader.
