Good news, your pic has turned up.....:p...lots of oil.

Keep the EGR, just in case one day some jobsworth demands they are fitted for an MOT, Highly unlikely but you never know.

Cheers

My EGR has a gas cooler on it, and I didn't order enough blanks, so I've left that on there and blanked the EGR side for now - plus had to repair the top coolant leak off pipe from that as it was so brittle it broke as I moved it. Pain.

(Begs the question, if you do remove it totally what do you do with the associated coolant pipes?
Or do you just leave it in place blanked off?).

Good to hear.
Regarding the EGR removal, yes, there are generally two types on the Disco 2 Td5 engine; with and without the heat exchanger.
If you decide to remove the whole lot, EGR valve, pipework and heat exchanger from the front of the engine, then instead of just blanking off the water pipes, the should be connected to allow a flow through them. There are other devices on that part of the cooling circuit.
I've attached a .pdf which I was given when I removed mine a few years back.

just added links to the post a couple back as well - of the ECU side

Something to keep in mind, when you are going to do your next oil change.

Oil pump bolt. Yours is a 2002 , so as far as I am aware it should be OK, but I have heard rumours that some later ones failed. It is on my to do list for my next oil change. Have a look at the discovery2 website.

Not wanting to scare you or be a worrymonger, but it is something you should make an educated decision on.

Cheers

Thanks - Thats what I've done (Blank fitted to position 'B') on the EGR end of the heat exchanger. The rest of it is still there and I've left the coolant pipes connected. I was thinking of removing it when I assumed it was only the top small pipe back to the header tank, but having seen the larger coolant pipe coming out of the bottom I didn't want to get involved :)

just had a read - and now want to unread it :) -
I'll bear that in mind when I do the next service. Limited area at mine to get it up off the ground (under bonnet stuff is ok but I don't have a drive outside the house as such, just a farm track -
Hopefully the fact its been in there 14years means it'll stay in for another few months until I get in there.

In terms of doing it - just a case of ordering the bolt and sump gasket from one of the many suppliers ?

Yes, also check the gearbox / sump cross member bolts, they seize up, if for any reason a garage has gone in there, you may find they have had to break off the bolts and may have welded it back in place, ( half mine are welded the other half bolted:p) I keep thinking about doing mine, but then I put it off. AFAIK the risk is really , really low on the later vehicles. But for the sake of a £5 bolt and gasket when doing an oil change I then think I am stupid not doing it........ Choices , choices..........

But , I thought it was best to warn you, at least you are aware of it now. Sorry....LOL.

Cheers

I dumped the cooler on my 90 never had an issue, also recently got rid of it on my 110 again no issues. You can blank it off right round to the oil cooler on the right of the engine if you want all that extra pipe work out the way. I've yet to do this but I will soon when I do a coolant change.

Theres so much crap in a TD5 engine bay its unreal! Removing it all just makes doing other jobs a little easier.

As mentioned keep it all tucked away somewhere just incase, its unlikely but who knows as everyone hates diesels now...

Only thing that is a pita is getting the allen bolts off the manifold, on my 90 I had to remove the bloody exhaust manifold which in turn snapped studs in the head! I would Plus Gas the bolts daily
