My front speakers have not been working for a while now, and I have decided to fix it, finally.

One question for all of the wisened of the forum, how do you remove the stereo on a facelift model?

A good place to start i guessed, and fell at the first hurdle!

i had a quick look in the manual i have you will need to remove the whole centre console to allow you to remove the 4 screws holding the stereo in.

1. Remove the ashtray so far but watch as it will still be connected so you'll need to unplug it first.

2. Remove the cover at the rear of the centre console and there should be 2 screws

3. Remove the small cover located a few inches further back from your HDC button. Make sure to prise the cover from the front. and remove the 2 torqs screws.

4. Open the lid of the centre console and remove the 4 screws holding the tray in.

5. Disconnect all the wiring to the switches note which one goes where as they probably all look the same. then remove the wires from the harness

6. The rear section should now just lift out.

7. Remove the trim above the stereo by sliding it towards the rear of the car use a blunt leaver if possible. and remove the two torqs screws.

8. There are two screws located at each side of the console remove these.

9. Remove the gear leaver gaiter the HDC button and disconnect the wiring.

10. Now you can carefully remove the panel from the car again be careful as you will need to disconnect the wiring to the switches once you can get your hand in the back. If necessary note which plug goes to which switch.

11. You should now be able to take out the 4 screws for the stereo and remove.

Hope this helps.

One thing to ask, did they both stop working at the same time? My 04 has had both front speakers stop working at different times, nothing to do with wiring at rear of stereo - it was the connectors in the door panels - corroded - water had got at em - queue doors falling off jokes...;)

not really sure when they went, only noticed one day when I was cleaning and my ear was right next to the grille. might be worth a shifty though.....

Hi. I'm also trying to fit a double din stereo into a facelift hippo. I got as far as trying to remove the two grey philips head screws in the centre console, but the handbrake is in the way to get a good purchased on the screwdriver, also the screws are already stripped from the previous owner.

I can't see a way around it because I doubt I can drill the screws out, because of the handbrake getting in the way of a big bulky power drill?

I'm not very strong physically, but I don't think it's just a case of my weakness, but probably because the screw head is mashed up.

Any ideas please?
Thank you.

What i do is: use a good side cutter, press the nose of the cutter to the head, that way it'll groove in then turn the cutter. Needless to say, screws to be changed after

Thank you very much to Zejmjien + englishbullterrirer for your help. I didn't know what a side cutter was! And the tutorial photos are a great help. Cheers.
