Hi guys.

I had an issue with my brake lights last year and bought a new brake switch which sorted it. However I have now exactly the same problem, and a new brake switch didn't work though I have now found the fault.

For anyone with a freelander if you have a problem with the lights or not, look underneath your dashboard where your pedals are and up to where the back of the fuse box is. There should be a bunch of wires from the fuse box which happen to touch the brake pedal. Now where the pedal is constantly moved, this has subsequently rubbed on the wires through to the bare metal.

Very clever land rover.

Have a check

There is a plastic clip to hold the wires in place which pushes into a hole, though on mine there are so many wires that this clip cannot hold them, hence it pulls out of the hole and allows the wires to move.

I have a Lotus which had a very similar problem. Whole bunch of cables were affected and caused a number of weird electrical issues.

Yea your right, the thread title should really include any electrical fault as there are a lot of wires under there. Seems like a fire waiting to happen!
