Any ideas when you'll be going out? I'd like to come this time and see some lanes. Depending on what time you're going out. Work from 6pm till about 8:30pm at the moment (bah! stupid contract work).

Not sure when next week, but wanna go during the day so we can get some good pictures.
Either do colchester, witham, then on to saffron waldon and violets lanes. Or instead go from colchester, through langham and dedham and then head north.

I'll be able to come during the day for North side of Colchester but I'll leave it if it is too far the other side.

Don't fancy violets lane!

Sounds like a good plan there Chris, wish i could make it, but hey work is work, may have to find a weekend day when we can do violets lane,

Also got to get myself a small diesel car as well, as my landy costing me fortune doing my job, something thats cheap as chips to run, and cheap as chips to buy as well, something like a 106/feista tyoe thing with an MOT, lol, then got to get a supply of veg oil to pour in it...

why not it looks great fun, I WILL be doing it soon.

If you do do it if theres been hevey rain you'll need a snorkel..... thinking about it if you follow chris into puddles you may need one, :D:D:D. and some breathers.

I up for a small trip one night next week.

I don't have breathers, recovery points, snorkel or anything like that yet.

Well, I've got the recovery points to go on but haven't had time. Got to cut the bumper before anything.

.

You realy need the recovery points done before going laning/off road, if your using the tie down rings to recover the they could give way, causeing damage/injury, also if you want to pay and play, or do a SLROC driving day it will not pass the scrutineering.

Snorkel and breathers are only realy if you want to play in some deep water, or just want the comfort zone so you dont have to worry if it deeper than you checked it was, you should always check the depth before diving in, but the odd hole in puddle you may have missed, ask Wickford 90 what he thinks about deep water in an engine....

Maybe could do something next weekend Stu. Day trip heading out violets lane way.
Really is a wise idea to get breathers and snorkel fitted as many lanes can get surprisingly deep in places. Brian had an issue with his on a lane he had previously passed without issue.
If cost is a worry I made mine out of old drain pipe, some flack and a bit of tiger seal. Total cost £16. Looks a bit pikey but does the job.

The lanes we do you wont need breathers or snorkel , if by any chance it is to deep you can go around the water, tow bar ok for rear recovery and couple of jate rings on the front will be fine, if we are out and you get stuck some one will have recovery shackles and strop to pull you out if you have'nt got them yet. why you got to cut the bumper?

Valance is what I meant. I'd rather carefully remove it than rip it off on a bump! I need to cut the bumper end caps then fit the jate rings.

What tow rope would you recommend? I've got a jack, shackles, strop and spanners, etc in the Landy and would like to add a rope just incase. Needs to be more substantial than my halfrauds special I keep in the van :-D

I have two, a rope that 12T and 5m long, and a 4T strap that 6m long, all in all it personal preferance, I brought a Rope first, then the strap, The strap will roll up smaller. Keep the thin halfords one for towing cars, as no point in using the larger one.

Dont buy a kinetic rope unless you know how to use it... they can rip things apart...

Its handy to have one front and rear but not nessary but helps you from having to keep swaping fron front to rear. Also I perfer two shorter ones as no point in using a 12m one if you can use a 5m one.

Oh and keep them well mainatained, and clean, they will last longer, and dont drive over them. i put a small bit of copperslip on the shackle threads as well , just incase they are tight/bind with all the mud.

Have a look on ebay theres a few good ones on there.

Have you got a link to any eBay ones?

Also a thought..... I have about 50x 10 ton ratchet straps from the flatbed lorry. Could I modify one and use as a tow strap? Won't cost anything then :-D

Bit of a change of plan I can't do Monday Tuesday or Thursday.. not sure about Wednesday .. if you are going then i may tag along but please dont go out of your way...

Cheers, Jack
