We did the panhard bushes today and guy is going to get a right handed thread track rod end as that one has a little play in it.

Will do Matt :) I'm thinking if the water pump is knackered it would over heat very quickly or even just on tick over (got no fan in) - so once I get my alternator back I'm gonna try a new header cap first, then water pump -
the pan hard bushes were in a proper mess & yeah gonna change the near side track rod end (but have got the wrong one lol)

Well had another go with sorting the auto box, drained about 800ml out and gear changes seem smoother though the pull away is still sluggish annoyingly.

Decided to make myself feel better and fit my tank guard. Glad I did as the original tank support had all but rotted away!!

Just need a tow ball and plug now.

Also wheeled out Mikey's spare for a comparison:

No not anymore. Truck still isn't 100% and sold my wheels today so don't want to risk damaging them.

I'll be there on the 3rd instead.

Jon glad to here ya on the mend, with all this wet weather we are getting I think we need to arrange a day out ( once everyone gets their motors sorted ) been a quiet year for essex lanes days out, little man has had me in the shed working on his v8 since coming back from the peterbourgh lr show, he has so far cleaned two heads the block and a piston so the v8 should be built and in with megasquirt around jan feb, even thou it was supposed to be last winters project,
Guy to test the water pump take off the top hose and romove stat, put a hose in the rad and run the engine, you should get a load of water flowing out if the pumps good if its a trickle or very slow like a tap running the pumps fooked.

I did my P gasket yesterday and once I filled the water back up I left the top filler cap off on the stat housing to let any trapped air out.

When I started the engine the water started gushing out straight away. This hasn't happened before, could the stat be stuck open or missing?

I refilled and let the engine run with all the caps back on and it gave me hot air inside and eventually got to temperature after about 15 minutes.

Cheers Wangie(Ian) - once I got my alternator back I will give it a go, I'm not gonna start replacing the head gasket just yet (if the water pump isn't pushing the water around enough I guess it won't get all the air out of the system) - for the sake of £20 a new water pump can't do no harm :))

Not really on the mend as such, had a major op on my bowels and getting over that although it's not good news in general as it has been diagnosed as terminal and I have been given 12 months, it's not ideal but I am looking at the positives and have to think it could be worse, I could be wheelchair bound (have actually got one coming as I can only walk a few hundred yards now) or I could have died outright in a car crash or something. Fortunately I have life insurance which is paying out so I have got a nice amount of money to make the most of he next year, I see myself as fortunate to have that oppertunity to make some final good memories, gonna do stuff like taking the family to London for a £200 a head meal and silly price hotel etc. Hopefully I will be over the op in a few more weeks and will be out, I have sold my truck to a friend but will be using it to come out in still.

Aww Jon, my thoughts are with you and ya family :) keep positive mate and do all the mad and stupid things you've always wanted to do... As for my essex mud monkeys sticker, I stuck it on the inside so it's backwards!!

Jon my thoughts go out you and your family, I didn't realise it was that serious, keep you chin up mate and hope to see you soon.

Can't believe how well your taking it all Jon, amazing strength.

Linking along your other thread of making plans what are peoples thoughts on another trip away along the lines of the Wales trip a couple of years back?
Probably after Christmas now but maybe January/march time?

Yeah id be very up for it! Catch 22 tho! TD5 will be more comfy but less capable/delicate but I doubt the D1 will be ready either :(

Count me in as well, Dan the td5 would cope with any of the wales lanes we have done before, set of decent tyres and snorkel, away you go.

Yeah well the off road wheels and tyres are coming off this week to be replaced with the RR Sport 20s LOL
