I seen many people put a CB on the transmition tunnel of an Landy.

YOur best off looking at ebay or a web shop i think

Yer i got a new Aerial cable from ebay for about £2 :D looks a lot better than the **** one I got with the aerial as well. My CB is above the sun visor, if that gets wet I am in trouble :doh:

Best place for a CB, think there is a few of us got them there, I know a couple have them on the dash board as well
 
I've got one, you'll just need it for setting up, You can set it up without one but if your SWR is to high it will blow it up.

Was cracking on with my rear bumper early this morning and I think my brake press is dead........ hydraulic oil everywhere and a split ram :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:

The poor thing was practically vintage and parts don't exist anymore. It will be dismantled this afternoon and scrapped :(

I've also masked up my chassis, springs, fuel tank, zoorst, etc and it's all ready for painting underneath and inside the disco :)

Lots to be getting on with today and it's bloody hot out there already!
 
I just bolt mine in usually without any issues. Guy has a meter and we have tried it on mine a couple of times and it was within the right level and we could not improve it at all.

Probably worth a quick check if you can borrow a meter just to make sure its not in the red damage zone.
 
You have to move the aerial up & down to get a low reading on the swr meter.
Check the swr is as low possible on channel 1-20-40 as the aerial needs to be in tune with all of them.

What your looking for with a SWR meter is the "Standing Wave Raito", a CB anneta is maufactured to be with in a little bit, matched to the rig's for 27Mhz, The Ratio is the amount of forward signal from the transmiter that reflected signal back from the attenea, when the signal is reflected back it causes a standing wave just like in a river, the biger the standing wave the less signal will be transmited out... therefore the smaller the wave the more that get out... in extreme cases it can cause damage to the transmitter.

I would not operate above 3.1:1 best it is checked with a SWR meter, its best done in an open area with no building, and the position of the Anttena will also cause the progation of the signal as well.

I will admit that mine could be better, then it is but just not got round to getting it lower then it is....

  • A reading of below 1.5 is ideal
  • A reading between 1.5 and 2 is ok, and nothing to be worried about
  • A reading between 2 and 2.5 will usually be reduceable with adjustment to the aerials length
  • A reading between 2.5 and 3 usually indicates that the aerial is being affected by something around it, or that the groundplane is present but maybe not big enough
  • A reading in the red part of the SWR meters' scale means that the SWR is high enough to possibly damage the set and usually indicates an insuffcient ground plane/earth connection, or a short or open circuit in either the cable, plugs or mount.

What you need to do next is to take readings on channels 1 and 40 and make a note of them. (You will need to switch back over to FWD and fine tune the calibration on each of these channels.)
If your readings are LOWER on channel 1 than they are on 40, then your aerial needs to be shortened. (In most cases, this is what you are likely to find.)
If your readings are LOWER on channel 40 than they are on 1, then your aerial needs to be lengthened (by loosening the grub screw and pulling some of the whip out of the coil).

A meter with a built in antenna matcher may help you reduce the readings if you can get it out of the red to start with - but you'll need to make sure you don't accidentally adjust the controls after you have set it up. Mark the settings and lock them by sticking tape over them (or similar) to prevent them moving. [/SIZE]
