Oops only just read this. Thanks mate but got a replacement now.

Went to Bures at the begining of the month and then flew off to Cyprus so didn't get time to post pics. Though there seems to be a damp patch under the car this morning which i need to investigate. So Bures caused an indiacator to stop working, my rev counter and brakes make a hell of a noise too.

Think my alternater has packed up, managed to drive 11 miles to work in it and as i got here the stereo kept dying and engine got a bit sputtery. went to leave work and all dead, it jumps but once disconected to the jumpee the battery drains again. Got to get it back from billericay so will call theAA this afternoon. Any suggestions as to where i can get a fairly cheap Alternator from for a 1993/94 V8 disco???? grrrr

That was exactly what happened when the AA man turned up.... after hours of us reading metres, trying to bypass earths and everything else the AA man tapped it with a socket, the engine changed note and the alt started charging again. He was there about 3 mins and i drove home. He said it was probably due to warn bushes that need releasing and yes the engine is covered in mud at the moment. i wish you'd suggested that before i made the call, saved me from the shame .... i have lots of cleaning ahaead of me i think... so that's two cars, two motorbikes and two bicycles that need some TLC so i am going to be busy.

ere randy you live in springfield? i think i saw your disco the other day
yeah, for my sins.... the dirty green mess is all mine, well actually the wifes

This Sunday I took the Landy out to a couple of local lanes to me just south of Braintree.

I have done one of them before but went on another one I have not been down.

It is definately a legit open lane as there is an official sign at the start to say it is closed between Nov and March each year.

When we reached the end we suddenly faced the side of a new double garage. There was a freshly gravelled drive in front of a nice new house.

We could drive onto the gravel and round the garage, then there was a 20mtr gravel private drive up and through some gate, which I presume the house owner can close and lock at any time.

Is this something legal? Has he built accross the legal right of way, even though you can still drive round.

I have come out at many lanes near the side of people houses but not on any so obviously personal.

Not sure but think i know that lane.As you exit the lane the garage is on the right and the house and garden are on the left running parrallel to the lane?Heard the bloke who owns it will moan if you go too fast but thats about it as it is a legit lane.I have used it a couple of times but from the house end and you hav to pull on to his drive first.Bit weird!

I think it's the out near Barnston possibly, if so he used to moan when we came down there on loud bikes but not had a problem with the cars. just take it slow and theres not much he can do. Other than that, out by Finch's yard at grt leighs you have to do the same on a couple....

also the lane marked pink lane O/S TL 77 02, 16 07 to TL 78 08, 17 07 is not a byway it is a bridal way according to the definitive map all other maps have it as a byway and satnavs and google show it as a road, it is blocked by a steel gate at point TL 77 08, 17 04

The lane down the side of Finch's is quite pony, good for a trundle-lots of horses down there though.
If you're out Braintree way, there's a good one past Stisted, Nunty's Lane, the more I'm driving it the better it's getting! Some nice boggy holes...If you approach it from Stisted direction, it's hidden between the trees on the right-quite overgrown @ the mo...
Here's the ref http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Nunty's+Ln&daddr=51.907293,0.656476&geocode=FQILGAMdywMKAA%3B&hl=en&mra=mi&mrsp=1&sz=16&sll=51.90733,0.656331&sspn=0.006566,0.018883&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=16
