Thanks I won't be going on my own anywhere.
But was just looking on o.s maps at dunton.
Do any of you use os maps on the iPhone?
This is a debate that crops up oftern,
Maps on a Phone, Laptop or a seperate PDA.
This is how i see it use a laptop it has to be a small note book due to the rubustness of the hard drive in a normal hardtop, the size makes it a pain to locate and power requirements mean that a 12v to 240v inverter is required,
If you use the phone then you got the problem of jumping between map/phone funtions, also if one the phone goes wrong your nackered in both funtions, also power usage, not such a problem if you got a in car charger.
PDA to me gives you the funtionality of a single item ie you can read the map while on the phone ..... this has hapend to me when lost before and trying to locate the rest of the party, A PDA can just be put in pocket if you jump out the motor unlike a latop. at the price you can get them off ebay they as cheap as chips, I also hve a PDA with a 4" TFT VGA colour display, so the image is of good quality, where as the screens on some phones are a bit too small at dash lengh to read.
I also carry my laptop with Memory Map on, and a set of paper maps as a back up
