Guess who is sitting at the side of the road at Rowhedge, with what looks like another bearing failure, waiting for RAC to recover me. How many bearings can a disco chew in a month?????????

I think its getting to give up time!
bloody things, hope you get it sorted. I bet my problem is a bearing?

rear diff oil done, transfer oil mid way, will finish after work. then road test.
But I do have play in the front prop is that normal?

Started a new thread to see what the general opinion is.

As you guys (or rather your rides) seem to be dropping like flies, is the laning tonight off?

Spike

Is for me I'm afraid!
Sorry, I was looking forward to getting back out on the lanes.

Will try again for a week night next week.

Cheers
Nick.

did you get back home ok. is it deffo a bearing, and is it one you changed recently.
been told today bearing set up on td5 is different to a tdi, so i am waiting for the gods of knowledge on here to enlighten me before i strip it down.
I fooking hate bearings

I don't understand what the issue with bearings is? Should not be an issue.

The only thing I can think of for you stu is that the stub axle might need changing as you needed to dremil off the oldbearing causing some damage.

Alright got mine running today new ignition amp but now it wont idle, been able to keep it running by adjusting the throtle cable to pull the butterfly open, now idles at 1000 rpm and 500 in gear (Auto) but only a temp measure as needed to move it out the way.
Any ideas :) idle fine before break down

New thread needed:
Broken in Essex
I think the past 10 pages have all been about repairs and next to nothing about Essex lanes.
I propose an evening laning next Thursday - whose Landy's are up for it :p

Anyway, with regard to my Disco and its whine.
I've renewed the oil in the rear diff & transfer box (that was fun to refill:doh: ). Jacked up the back and tested for any wobble (cheers stu) seems ok, but I've never checked a bearing before.
Extended the breather for the rear diff, found the fuel tank one, but the 8mm tube hasn't been delivered yet. Tried to fit the breather for the transfer box - thats going to be a git, can this be done from above?
Taken for a test drive and some noise still there. More noticeable when below 30 mph and with foot off the gas?

Now I'm going to wash the oil out of my hair (shouldn't take long), bloody transfer box! what a poxy job.

Yeah it can be done from above I got to do mine yet, If you want i'll give you a hand, and vicky verky, you have to remove the consol, and take the tunnel top off - Drill out rivits and then replace.

Yeah RAC got it to Landypart, and droped me home, got home at 5:45 in the end, Waiting for a call tomorrow morn from Landypart, getting them to look at my uj's while they got it. I dont know if the td5 has different wones, have you put a question on the disco thread?

I saw somebodies green disco sitting down at landypart :D

Yeah its mine..... just got fed up thought It may as well go down there as I got to be back on the road ASAP. I take it you having your Timing belt today then?

Na it not that one Brian, its now the last corner - (drivers rear), unless my Disco has more wheels then four, saying that I dont think the Spare wheel has wheel bearings, lol.
