Trewey, I might have a lead on (hopefully) a cheapish Tirfor.
Seein as you are the resident hexpert on the subject.
Just wondering what sort of pull capacity I would need, they seem to range from 1200kg-4500kg would somewhere about 2500kg be about right?
Might need a lesson how to use the bugger without decapitating meself though:eek:

Yep 2500Kg will be fine. Don't forget that tirfors are rated for lift capacity Pulling capacity generally been double the lift capacity. Invest in a snatch block and you will double the pull capacity or more importantly half the effort required to pull your landy out the mud..

Make sure it is a proper tirfor and not a turfer or comealong as most of the ones on ebay are called. they are ****e and will only pull about 3to 4ft before you have to stop re-rig everything and start again..

Cheers Red,
Should be a proppa Tirfor, may take a while to get hold of it but it should be cheap (Not as cheap as Trewey's) will just need to learn how to use it.

Mine's a 3.2 tonner. It's great, but it's fookin heavy.
A 1.6 tonner will get you out of most situations for less than half the weight.
A 2.4 tonner will be more than ample.

Make sure it comes with the proper cable - Tirfor cable is knitted differently to standard steel cable, to resist crushing by the mechanism. It also has a tapered end to feed through the mechanism.
Length of cable is a compromise between how far you can pull in one go and how much weight of cable you've got to carry around. Mine's 20m, which seems a reasonable compromise.
