Dopey gives a shout when yor recover your sunroof blind and can you check something for me when your doing it.My sunroof will not stop in the closed position ie.it will open then tilt ... when you close it , it just goes into the slide open mode. It connot find the closed position. Asked the auto sparky if teeth on the motor were goosed he said he did not think so ,he said more like the teeth on the guiding track .When i open it to tilt ... at full tilt you hear the mottor juddering like it cant find the stop point .. like its still trying to open it further .any help is appreciated as you might see something when your in and about the sunroof during recovering it.

Sounds like its kinda out of sink with the track, like its run out of track (been pushed forwards) and its carrying on (or the other way around if your closing it? is that making sense to you?

I did all my pillars in alcantara years ago so i have an advice on this.

Altough i did a great job on A pillar that are very easy because there's no seatbelt, i messed all the others.

People said great job but its it wasn't for me, alcantara is very difficult to work since it doesn't stretch at all.

Finally i ended with a set of post 2000 pillars that do not have the fuzzy stuff at all but looks like they got it...

My advice is either let those pre 2000 bare material and well cleaned or get a material that stretch a lot to do those.

Dopey, I'm another one with sunroof issues!!!

When you replace your sunroof seal are you going to silicone it on or just press it on? Mine has a leak from somewhere that pi55es water down through the interior light!

It seems to fit ok and the drains aren't blocked that I can see but there's water coming in from soemwhere.

The other option is to silcone the bloody thing closed but wifey might moan on the odd occasion the sun shines.

are you saying the tubes are blocked? I think there's 4 of them, I haven't got it off yet, will hopefully be doing that 2morrow, held in with cable ties, have a look when I do the post I think you can take the sunroof apart almost, and then check where it might be coming from seal it and it will still be a functioning sunroof

Dopey you suggested that roof lining with the 3mm foam backing would be easier to use ,and idea where i can get this 150cm wide?

Only place I could find it was in the USA if you do find any give me a link and I will put it in to my fix on the top page m8

I asked for samples from many companies from USA to Germany.
Some had to be paid.

Found foamback suede at Your Auto Trim Store

The yard is 14USD plus shipping.

I'll tell you which one looks is really close to the grey of plastic bits over there...:)

Sunroof drains
sunroof
Hi Dopes,

I've checked the drains and they appears to be 'draining' ok. Well certainly the front ones - the back ones are a bit of a b@stard to get at!!!

It would be good if you could just let me know how you get on refitting the sunroof seal and if it works ok. At this time of year, you shouldn't have to wait too long for rain to test it out.

I may take mine off, clean it and put a small bead of silcone round it for 'extra' seal. I just didn't fancy buying a new seal for £100.00.

There's 4 hoses 2 go in the the A pillar the other 2 at the back, if your gona take the roof out its not a hard job if your taking to roof lining out at the same time with the roof down and out you can get to what looks like neoprene seals (they have sticky back and it is all the way round the roof) pics for you

Im about to do a write up on how to take the sun roof out at the top of the thread, so if you want to follow that???

Am quite interested in trying to "travel iron" my roof lining as its sagging a fair bit :(
Any chance of a quick "how to" with some tips???

Cheers ;)

I noticed on mine when i took the lining off, the sponge had gone totally, it was hard, so if you pressed you fingers in to it, it didn't spring back, I don't know this for sure, but the iron thing might work as its maybe melting the plastic, but who knows how long that will last, why do you need a how to? just iron it, its not gone get any worse is it???

Update on why your sunroof could be leaking, got to page 1 its near the bottom

I think this "How to" is finished

2morrow I should have enough time to finish the job, including the pillars, so will post some picks at the top of the page, should just take an hour or so to do, depending on how much beer I have in the fridge.....

Well its been in for a few weeks now and nothing has dropped, and tbh it looks great, and have had no problems at all, anyone dont this yet???
