whats your budget,td5 been later generally better vehicle ,and by far the most powerful ,proper 200 very good but not many around ,300 i think the best designed lr engine

6k is the very most I will go upto dont really want to spend that much but...
going to be doing fair amount of road miles so really after the most reliable best for fuel and the best for power/speed if there is one.
fuel wise going to mix with oil
power/speed I know they arn't fast thats not what I mean but something thats quite decent on the road if you know what I meen

200 and 300 Tdi are much of a muchness - 300 a bit quieter and slightly more complicated, and of course being newer there are more good ones still about.
Both 200 and 300 are relatively simple, easy to work on and generally considered very reliable but not performers. Both achieve around the ~30mpg mark depending on what vehicle they're fitted to.
TD5 is a completely different animal, more powerful and torquey but you pay the price in complexity and fuel economy. Much harder for the home mechanic to work on in the garden, but generally considered as a reliable powerplant.
Personal preference really, I wouldn't say no to any of these

right o thanks mate, as said in the last post whats the speed like in the 300 not looking to go fast thats what my beast is for lol but need abit about it.

200 or 300 will do 90 ,are the most economical ,but can be sluggish by todays std,tdg pulls from the start but less economical ,will cost more to maintain ,id go 300
ye im not blasting around but as long as its good for dual cariageway speeds and decent on and off round abouts
ye thinks its looking that way mate, im after the 110 so does that make a difference to which engine

no 110 better vehicle and cheaper unless you want csw,main thing is good body work engine could easily be changed ,bodywork much harder

Yep bulkhead around the vents below front windscreen, chassis particularly at the rear - take a big screwdriver or hammer with you when you view to give it a good bash, make sure it's solid and not being held together with underseal.
Other than that just normal stuff you would look for on a car - gearbox (whines crunches etc) check engine for excessive smoke - all Tdi smoke black on start up but should clear straight away, make sure it pulls well and doesn't show any signs of hesitancy or limiting.

ok will make sure, anything underneath or somewhere usually over looked to someone new to defenders
