Island 4x4 have cranks for £1500.00

Trouble is there not genuine , even some being britpart

There’s been a lot of problems trying to obtain genuine crankshafts, plenty of copies , Turner engineering useto have some but now stopped selling them

Don’t know why JLR wouldn’t allow selling them, maybe there’s a few out there now

Alas with the 2.7 many just buy a s type jag with a running engine and use that , but no good for the 3.0 litre

Is the 2.7 not the same engine with a slightly smaller bore? If so, crank would fit.
BUY s-type for a grand. Sell the bits for a grand........... Free crankshaft

No , The 2.7 crank is different than the 3 litre crank , plumbing , sump, exhaust are also different

S type is only a 2.7 , need the 3.0 which is in the XF

^^^ presuming that was the only problem
It had to begin with

That’s also what I was thinking , ie, suspension , electronics etc plus how long the landy has been standing , inc any water ingress

Fingers crossed the OP hasn’t caught a cold with it

Second hand engines are 4-5k.
Wife's cousin in Czech has had two in his disco 4 in the last year!
Last one he managed to find in Poland and was slightly cheaper at 3.5k but he had to collect it which probably added a couple of hundred to the cost.
They're expensive because they're in demand.

£1,500.00 (excl. VAT)
Crankshaft Crank 3.0 TDV6 New Standard (OEM) DA7300/3.0

there is the ad but ididnt see +VAT which puts another 20% on it + you will also need bearings and other associated parts so yes probably be about £30000 for parts by the time its all added up

Indeed very expensive just for the crankshaft , JSA wouldn't allow the sale of genuine crankshafts , will try and find the info , was a right headache I believe for garages etc who wanted to try and buy them

Oem quality I know could include the things like britpart

There was a lot of talk about it on the D3 forum

Ur spot on ref the cost and many just bought a second hand engine

Sounds about right , has been known for JLR to contribute towards an engine , However there engines have started around £10-15k , worst bit is regardless how many times there are issues they won’t accept there’s a problem

Mixed reports of sometimes where engines have failed JLR will help, other times don’t want to know , seems it’s the dealer who decides

Ur right there, high price because of the demand

I often wonder if they go when people have them remapped ,there doesn’t seem to be 100% reason which ones fail, ie certain vin numbers or batch numbers

Engines known to have failed from 2004 all the way up into the discovery 5

Sorry to hear about the issues ur cousin had , really wish JLR could finally accept there’s an issue which I think would at least get more engines out there so price drops

There is now a brand new style of upgraded oil pump cover done by a separate company, which I think is an attempt to prevent cranks snapping

As a side note , some other country’s have accepted full responsibility
