Does the petrol have the emergency stop button behind the driver's kick panel?
Not that I know off, but did suffered battery drain before, even with an updated receiver, so I have left the receiver disconnected & lock manually with no problems. Just to confirm, I did not disconnect any wiring from the MAF, just undid the clip & removed it from the intake hoseOn petrol engines if you disconnect the maf with engine running it will keep going till its stopped then wont start again till maf reconnected, all the diesels I have dealt with are happy to start and run with it disconnected if fact two that I know of have been like that for couple of years and pass mot no problem.
OK, heres something for you guys to figure out.
I checked the stop button, it was exactly where you said it was, I just had not noticed it before. It was in the down position.
A friend lent me a tester to see if the injectors were getting a signal, unplug the lead to the injector & connect the tester to the lead. It only gives ONE flash when cranking the engine.
Now for the interesting bit- disconnected the MAF & gave a little squirt of brake cleaner in to the air intake, cranked the engine & she started ! & continued to run smoothly for 10 minutes, tester flashed every time, until I turned off.
Restarted immediately ok, but when left for a couple of minutes would not start again !!
What do you think?
I borrowed OBD reader, it only showed 2 faults relating to the MAF, these most likely occurred when I disconnected it. Cleared faults, but still did not start, faults did not re occur.Can't remember exactly, but doesn't the GEMS engine ECU respond to generic OBD readers ? I'm sure I tried this on my 1998 GEMS before I got my Nanocom. Unfortunately I'm the wrong side of London to pop round !!
Hi Biketeacherdave, that would be great, just let me know when you are availableYep long fields not to far from me I don't have nanocom but I do have a laptop with some nifty diag on it mite be worth plugging it in, but I'm off to Belgium on my motorbike won't be about until after the week end.
Battery is good & fully charged, engine is turning over nice & quick!I think we need diagnostics. There must be someone nearby with a Nanocom or similar?
If one of the parameters takes it off the map it won't start. Is the battery good and the engine spinning nice and quick on the starter?

I do get fuel from the rail valve, but will go Wammers tests later today to see exactly whats flowing.Fuel pump can be checked using Wammers guide in the Technical Section.
When cranking the engine there is only ONE pulse to the injectors, then nothing whilst continuing to crank. Battery is good with a good turnover speed.Doin know if a dodgy temp sensor would tell the ecu it hot when its cold ,trying to start on a lean mix,which would make it hesitate to rev .....More straw please
