What sort of temp does your exhaust manifold get yup to?
Don't know, but my set up is standards. I think, without research, that 250-300 Celsius is about norm. Those with tweeked pumps, larger intercoolers and fiddled turbos double that. I think 700c + gets you in to melting territory.

Arc-rite do a decent looking high temp matt black paint up to 600 degrees. Comes in a spray can so that will do nicely.

Have you had it shot blasted? I think the surface prep will be even more crucial that usual.
 
They take a bit of adjusting so that they a) fit the head you're doing, and b) to get the range of the over centre cam right so that it compresses easily. (You'll see what I mean and work it out).
 
Does the lift pump have a gasket? I'm assuming it does but weird as there's no trace of one after removing it?
