Ok yeh that makes sense and there’s a lot of oil. I’ll take it down the motor way for an hour and see how it does.
obviously be alert to issues as you never know, new parts arent allways perfect ,but it will take some heat to clear an oiled soaked exhaust completely ,ive had smoke fill the whole road behind for miles then only under power gradually getting back to normal over an hour or so

Is there any Land Rover situation you’ve not experienced James?
 
Is it getting any less smoky?

I had a similar problem with my JCB the other day - it created a huge pall of black smoke as it laboured up a hill at my smallholding very slowly. Fortunately the solution was simple. She was running a bit rich because my air filter was very dirty. A new air filter and it's got some power and if not exactly at Low Emission Zone standards it's a lot less smoky.
 
So took it for its maiden voyage this eve. Running well. Good on power. Very smokey on high revs esp when going up hill. Think it's running a bit rich? Doesn't smoke at all at idle. Confounding factor is I have a exhaust full of oil from previous turbo issue but it defo smokey exhaust when going for power. Any suggestions?
What happened with the turbo then, matey? Did they replace it for you? Or, have you got the donkey's ears on cos you left the protective plugs in the turbo? :rolleyes: :p

Yeh it’s getting there. Fairly sure it’s the oil in the exhaust. Need to give it a decent run to burn it all off

I hung off it. It’s got two huge hinge mechanisms and a metal runner that slots into itself. Saying that wouldn’t weightbare it for any length of time
Suppose once your in it, it's just taking the weight of your legs. ;)
 
Whats the best way to check the props and UJs? Read a few things on here but all a bit vague?
 
Jack up a wheel, and with a gear engaged grab a uj and turn that wheel back and forth with your foot. You can feel the play far better than looking at it. Same with the splined joint.
