Ok Ill put this in context. You're scrapping a £12k+ vehicle for a £4k engine?
Those maths don't add up.
I purchased the car 18 months ago on finance. 12k
I have just finished paying the car off (2 months ago) lump sum payment.
car has been serviced regularly and stamped in the book.
I am about to buy a house, so the idea was to chop the Disco in for something smaller and less juicy, 1 to save some pennies, and as I am now no longer doing any long distances and 10 mile round trip to work and back would be doing the car no favours.
The book price offered by garages around here for trade in is between £4000 and £4700.
so my maths are as follows.
Engine = £4000 + whatever parts are needed to go along with. + labour (car is currently sitting on a neighbours farm with the mechanics shed next door)
Thats without taking the engine apart to confirm what is wrong say another £500 there
so already im at a guaranteed £4500 + labour+ extras .
say £1500 ballpark so we are at £6000 . for a car that books at average £4500 around here..
so from the info I have available the maths do work.
as for stripping it back and selling it, I would make more than the scrap value just on the towbar alone.
I am going down to have a chat with the mechanic today see what is what .
If I had time/space then it would make sense to slowly strip it back and do it all myself.
time currently is at a premium with my work load. Space is something I do not have myself so would need to find / beg / borrow a shed somewhere to sort it all out.
