Hi, Well i decided to buy the Range Rover with the Engine Disabled fault on show. I have bought the vehicle for the engine but would like to solove this problem so i can hear the engine running and use it until the MOT runs out. So were do i start, i took the battery off and re-charged it and thats been re-fitted, both key fobs will un-lock and lock the car, when i put the key in the ignition the windows needed re-setting, ABS fault also showing, and engine disabled flashes in between the key movement to start the car, when i do this theres a clicking sound and all dash flashes on and off. I have tried the code in the drivers door but nothing has happened and no indication from the car that im doing this eg indicators flashing etc, i have noticed my door handle needs pushing in, (this maybe nothing) I am reading through old Threads to get my head around this problem. Colin

obviously the code is correct? if its not recognising the code i would say its the microswitch that picke up the door lock movements, take door skin off.

you are doing 4 turns before code art u?

Hi, No i havent done 4 turns before the code, which way do i do these 4 turns (to the left?) I received the code with service history, should anything happen while im entering code? Colin

colin, stop right now. dont go near the car with the key untill you have read this: Security and Alarm System Operation & Diagnosis on Range Rover 4.0/4.6/P38A

now read it again, notice the bit about 1996 p38's and onwards in brackets!!!

Make sure the doors, windows and bonnet/hood are closed, get out and lock the car again with the key. (Note: on 1996 and later models, you have to turn the key to the lock position four times for this step if the remote handset was not used to lock the vehicle). Then turn the key the required number of times according to the following sequence. (At each step the side lamps warning light on the dash will light to show it has recognized the input).

1. To enter the first digit, turn the key the required number of times to the unlock position.
2. To enter the second digit, turn the key the required number of times to the lock position.
3. To enter the third digit, turn the key the required number of times to the unlock position.
4. To enter the fourth digit, turn the key the required number of times to the lock position.

Turn the key to the unlock position to unlock the doors. The alarm will now be partially disarmed; if you try to open the hood the alarm will sound. After five incorrect attempts (3 for 1996 and later models) at this procedure, the BeCM goes into a 10 minute lockout mode (30 minutes for 1996 and later models), during which time the message center displays "KEY CODE LOCKOUT" and further attempts at EKA will not work.

Hi, Yes read that, and went and tried it, while i was inputting the code the side (wing) indicator lights flashed on the beginning of each number. So you would say its accepted the code, but engine didnt start and (engine disabled) appeared. Whats the next step? Colin

its a bit strange it says disabled still. keep trying it, make each turn count!!!

i suspect the code is wrong. i would check it by calling landrover!!

basically if youre inputing the code and its wrong it will eventually say lock out. you have to wait 30 mins for this to clear.

also doors windows set and the bonnet clsed??

mine works every time so its tricky undertanding the problems people have entering the code!!!

Hi, I have tried the code maybe 8 time and it hasnt shown "KEY CODE LOCKOUT" when im entering the code should the indicator flash the same number of times, eg my first number is ( 4 to the right) should it flash 4 times.
Im asking because sometimes it flashing and then it doesnt. Maybe it hasnt accepted the code at all? So could this be why it hasnt locked me out. If so why? Colin

Hi, So flash 4 times then 9 times etc, so i may have the same problem as (Jacob Lund within info you sent me gav) the micro-switch within the lock, any info on this, replacing, part number, etc.... Colin

dont panic just yet, at each turn is the central locking operating all the doors. also when door card is off, put yr hand inside and you will feel the wires, pull em off plug a couple of times to get a better connection. there is a single wire to the microswitch and a multi plug to the door lock. you can also take the door lock out and operate it manually but this gets a bit confusing if yr not carefull!!!

Hi, When im turning the key putting in the code only the drivers door latch is un-locking and locking, the other doors are remaining locked. whats does this mean. I havent a workshop manual, anywhere i can get a copy (to take door panel off). Colin

door card is easy, screws in under side of handle/armrest screw in the opener bit and a screw behind the tweeter, twist the tweeter a little so you can get a grip of it and pull it off!

you can dowload eave cd here cd2 you need!!!

if other doors are staying locked, the code hasnt gone in, but when you open the car after code is in the whole lot should. check all the locks are fully locked and all handles returned to the fully closed position, including the drivers exterior handle!!

Mine did exactly what yours does when entering the code. Only the driver door locks and unlocks until one more unlock after entering everything. Then they all open. At that point you need to resync your fob by clicking the buttons on it till it works with the car. Not sure if the key still has to be in the door, but mine was. Now when you unlock with the key fob you should be able to start. Also remember to have all the doors/bonnet/boot closed the whole time (until you go in and start it). Hope that made sence. I'm typing it from my phone so it might not!

to sync, officially the car has to recieve a remote key press within 30 seconds of a doro lock turn but most hold the lock/unlock button and turn the key in the door!!

I think you have covered this, but just to make sure.
I had problems with the EKA code, my 1996 RR wouldnt accept, until I spoke to Land Rover.
They told me all doors, must be closed, and unlocked, bonnet closed, boot closed, all windows closed. Then enter the 4 turns to lock to tell the system you are entering the EKA code. At this point all the doors will lock!. When I enter the EKA code only the drivers door lock operates, until I have reached the end. When I do the final unlock all the doors should unlock. Resynch the key. you should then be able to start the engine.

when you are entering the key code make sure the key returns to the vertical exactly or else it will not accept the code.

Hi, I have justed tried it three times and still doesnt start, i did the four turns then code, the indicator flashing doesnt seem to work on my third and fourth number, anyway after the code, kept key in used both buttons, all doors un-locked at this point. put key in came up (key in ignition) ABS fault, temp fault, and the engine disabled flashed on in betweem the movement of the key when trying to start it, it seems to click and all the dash items flash on and off with the clicking. Thanks for helping Colin
