Hi, Still havent cured problem with the engine disabled problem, i bought this car to remove the engine and put into another i have, well i have been looking at the other one which had been dismantled by previous owner (he removed one cylinder head, from doing this he formed the opinion that the liner had slipped. So my question is how much does a liner slip because i dont see any difference betweem the top of the liners, also im thinking that i may just replace both head gaskets and see what happens!! I would also like to know........is it possible to pressure test the block within the engine.......if yes how much do i have to strip down ( i have a compressor and i can make plates at work etc to block areas off...........so some advice please.....Thanks Colin

if you can make a plate that is basically the same as a head shape with good valves over each pot. you'll need to recess the plate to take a seal, a good o ring should be fine, use yer old head bolts, cut em doen but try not to torq em too tight.

thats the only way i can see of doing it on the car. by the time youve fecked about like that you'll be as well getting the gaskets on it and trying it and or doing a leakdown test!

can you take some picks of it for me?

either post em up here or pm me and i'll give you my email. make em as good as you can and number the picks and pots!

if the liner has slipped it should be visible.

if you get gaskets get the ones that are packaged in single packs. they are better quality!

hi,

sorry to jump on the band wagon here but i am having the same problem,

I cant get my 2.5 dt to start ie comes up with engine disabled now iv had it at 2 garages and they are stuck iv tried a new key and getting synced etc entering the code via the lock etc and still nowt,

Any1 have any ideas?

Really need this fixed! and im not the most mechanical minded!

Cheers Pete

if the car isnt accepting the code it may need what is called a re-learn, your car will have to be put on a diag machine and sorted. there are fellas on here with more knowledge. do a search

Have you left it for a while after trying then try it again......make sure your battery is fully charged too. Try doin the key thing in the door then put key in ignition and pressing a button.....Sometimes the need a gentle coaxing to do it....then all of a sudden it works

Hi Pete

There a quite a few people about who can reset the BECM, basically unlock it, disable the alarm if you can't get it to play ball. this is normally round about the £100 mark.

I am one of those people, you also have irishrover, who would be nearer to you if you were in Ireland, Callrova in Brighton and MteckUK (although there was a recent thread on one of the forums expressing concern about their turnaround speed).

The process requires the BECM to be taken out and worked on 'on the bench' so this is often done via mail order so to speak.

We are based in Bedfordshire, near the Hertfordshire border, PM me if you are interested.

Thanks
Andy
