Does anyone have yellow flashing emergency light bars or lamps on their LR when it's normally in domestic use? If so, had any problems with using them, been pulled by the plod for having them on a non-recovery/commercial vehicle for example? Considering fitting one for break down/accident etc. as there are a fair few rural routes around the area with some dodgy bends and no mobile signal - not everyone notices your warning hazard triangle and I'm thinking warning light bars could be pretty handy if you found yourself stuck on a bend or junction or off the road in the dark. I've seen them on other domestic vehicles but prefer to know about any legalities which could get messy though.

You'll look like a Complete wannabe. You seen the price of beacons? Spend the money on yer motor and yer less likely to break down.
That said if yer ain't on any business the chapter eight rules don't apply and yer can have what yer want (mot test allowing).

'S another reason why mag-mount yellow twirly lights are on ebay.
Stick 'em on the roof and plug 'em in when you need 'em.
Take 'em off and stow 'em when you don't.

The mag ones ain't great for Landies.
 
The rules have no doubt changed over the years - many moons ago even recovery vehicles were only supposed to use beacons whilst attending a breakdown, once mobile they had to switch to flashing lights that were only visible to the front. These days you see so many non-commercial recovery vehicles with beacons on the roof I'm surprised it hasn't become compulsory :rolleyes:

Don't think I'd be particularly fussed about looking like a wannabe if it helps avoid a crash or incident on a dark rural road. Price of beacons not an issue when you buy 'em at the car boot, yellow light bar for a tenner going from regular car booter.
Magnetic lamps ain't going to work but a non-permanent option would be a better option. The 90's not a mobile disco. ;)
Hazard lights are low level and not particularly obvious on an older LR. Thinking a higher level strobing would be more visible on a narrow, bendy, tree lined road.

If it's that much of an issue, just buy a magnetic one. It doesn't need to be stuck down if you're parked up with a blown head gasket etc.
