Sorry mistake my end. the VIN is SALLTGM873A824162
The reason the ECU is hard to remove is that I cannot see the two nuts to release the frame that holds to BCU and ACE to the body. I think I see one "mounting" JPEG. but cannot get above that as the two ECUs are bolted together. There may be a bolt to the lower left of the BCU that releases it. As I say nothing like the RAVE picture where the two ECU are apart by 3-4 cm.
I have taken a punt and ordered a cheap 2nd hand RQT 000030 ACE ECU off E bay. Nothing ventured nithing gained as they say

I've now flushed abut a litre of new green PAS/ACE fluid through the system. The reservoir is more green than black now.
Cant really do much more..........

Was it dirty? cos if yes it could have been the root of that intermittent warning
Not really, however I am unfamiliar with this filter and as such unsure what consititutes dirty. Anyway it's very clean now.
Just reviewing what we've done that may have influenced the ACE system:
1. Swapped R13 and R14 relays.
2. Unplugged and pluged the ACE ECU main connector.
3. Cleaned the ACE block filter
4. Flushed through 2 litres of clean PAS/ACE fluid.

Update:
Did 400 miles over the last week. The ACE light came on 3 times during a period of 7 days. Various codes which when cleared took another 100 or so miles to bring up the ACE light again. Absolutely no change to the handling with the ACE light illuminated. I now have a replacement ACE ECU which looks in very fine condition and as such when I can find out how to remove the ECU cradle I will change them over.
More info as and when I get round to this.

So all I have done is change the ACE oil and cleaned the filter on the solenoid block and after a couple of hundred or so miles (in which the Amber ACE light came on a couple more times) the system settled down and now after eight weeks and 1200 miles the light no longer comes on.
Maybe it was because I bought a replacement ACE ECU ready to shove in that the system decided to behave itself? Or maybe it just needed an oil change?
