I have just bought a discovery 1 1993 200tdi i have got electrical problems, first of all starting, put the key into ignition turn key no ignition lights, put fob thing into imobiliser then turn key have ignition lights, turn key to start, just getting clicking from starter relay, starter will not work, i have now replaced the starter, still the same, i have no side or head lights, the window will not opperate, the radio is dead, no horn, or haz lights, can anyone help me please. Fred.

As the indicaters were working, also the wiper washers were working, i thought of that, so i carried the big heavy lump up the entry and put it on charge, i left it on trickle charge for a bit as it was showing fully charged, then i put it back on, and you know what, it was still the same, i even changed the inicater/wiper stems to see if the lights would work, they did'nt so i changed them back, as i said i have replaced the starter motor, checked the fuses, now to start it, i have bypassed the relay, with a push button wired direct from the battery, and it starts ok, but i can only drive in the day light, because there's no lights, i just have indicaters and brake lights, any other suggestions please, thank you. Fred.

dodgy solenoid - if it's starting ok using a bypass

can you check that you do actually have continuity across the fuseholder and associated wiring, just because the fuse is ok doesnt mean the wiring is as well

Hmmm i have a 93 disco 2.5tdi and just recently have had the same problem, everything works except the windows, central locking and starting...when the ignition is turned it just clicks and thats it, i have checked the battery and drop tested it also checked the Alt to make sure its charging, changed the 12V70A starter relay but still the same, so i wired a switch between the thin white and white/red wire's on the relay and bam runs lovely except the door locks and electric windows, now i noticed that the alarm was playing up, as my door lock barrel is faulty i checked the micro switch on the lock and set it so the alarm is unarmed is it possible that an immobilizer is the reason for the non starting, windows and locks not working, if so where is the immobilizer? Oh also with a DVM i have 0V on the solenoid red/white wire,,,got to check the fuse links next...any ideas?????

I know mine is a DII but I had similar problems on mine some things worked others wouldn't and it wouldn't start, it turned out to be one of the battery fuses in the main fuse box.

Cheers

Bill
