Mmm interesting, see what you mean now. could i get away with using an arc doing boot floor etc, only on thin ish pieces of steel?

be hard, I've used arc on thin stuff but that was just trying it out I don't own one myself so the only time I use it is under supervision in the workshop so wouldn't want to say but reckon with some thin rods and power ramped down you may get away with it ?

someone else will know better

your better off with a bigger used one , a larger better machine will weld thinner metal much better than a small cheap one ,or hire a decent one

Cheers im trying to find the whole lot for under £100 but i dont think its gnna happen anytime soon haha

scrap the hire idea just looked up costs ,no point in buying a cheap small hobby one as it will be very hard to get any form of decent weld especially on thin stuff

There you go ;) get mine :p it'll **** through 5mm and will weld up exhausts as I used it for one a while back

Think it was only a 1.2mm wall as it was a tractor exhaust I had modified so just a straight stack

had to turn it right down but it was ok with it, done bodywork with a smaller one and that was a bit awkward to get right, nice on a large one as you have more choice

but small is the issue with welding thin

yeah but he only seems to want a small one ;) already offered him a big one :p

small will be a bit of an arse as you say, I know too as I've used one and would have preferred my current one when I was doing the bulkhead!

Can ramp it right up to 190A on a good socket like the stove one or put it right down to something like 20A IIRC for super thin stuff
