I am currently using my 300Tdi 110 H/T as a daily driver. No offroading and no towing - not what it was bought for but sometimes needs must...

I am considering an electric fan, allowing the engine to heat up faster, the screen blower to be a bit more effective and hopefully reduce the fuel consumption a bit.

Can't afford a new Kenlowe unit, and so was considering other alternatives. Has anybody tried using an electric fan from a P38, these seem to be readily available. If not, can anybody advise what would fit without having to make too many modifications? So I can scour ebay for something off a scrap van or 4x4.

Thanks, Tony

To be honest, you don't need a fan in the UK - especially at this time of year and if you're not towing anything. For the time being I'd just take the viscous fan off and see how it goes. I've not had a fan on my 200tdi all year and I drive into work (stop-start, traffic jams, etc.)

I made a cowl from fibreglass, and mounted an electric fan from a Saab 900 Turbo to it, good fan. Think it's come on twice in 5 years and that was summer, low range, offroading and almost always up a huge hill!

Works a treat, any good fan will do, Volvo fans are brilliant, huge big things. I saw one from a V70 on ebay for about £20 last week.

Thank you all very much for your comments. As soon as the rain stops I'll get myself out there with a tape measure. I'm working the weekend, so a job for Monday - unless the weekend is quiet in which case ebay may bekon...

I used my existing air con fan when I binned the air con. I have it switched from the dash and used the existing wiring and relay. Just pulled the signal wire to the relay and replaced it with the one from my switch. Cant be arsed to wire in a thermo switch.

i fitted a 14" fan off ebay, and it's on a switch, even off roading i hardly ever switch it on and thats on a 200tdi
