Final update - on the road again! To cover all trouble shooting and fixes uncovered:
Stage 1 - The vehicle would not start, would not even turn over, would not leave Park, would not lock or unlock the doors using the fob or main control, and was flashing S and M lights along with several others on the dash when I turned the key. The fobs had new batteries and I installed a new main battery in the vehicle yet it still did not recognize the key fobs or respond. Codes displayed were P1668 and P0705. Found an online service to create new keys (remotekey uk), and contacted Blackbox/nanocom-diagnostics about diagnostic equipment.
Stage 2 - The next week I began diagnostics with key in #2 position, meticulously pulling fuses one by one from the engine compartment fuse box until all fuses were removed, then put them back in place. I did find my horn fuse was blown during this process and someone had taken a relay for themselves over the years. It seems pulling all the fuses and replacing the missing relay reset the P1668 and P0705 codes as they disappeared. After leaving for about an hour to eat dinner, I came back and the key fob was working. So, it locks and unlocks with the fob and cranks with a no-start condition. The only remaining code is P0447.
Stage 3 - A few days later I was able to make the 112 mile journey to my downed Disco for further testing, this time I brought along my household commander affectionately known as my wife . She would turn the key while I tested power to the fuel pump and secondary air inject system. While sitting bored in the cabin she was looking through the fuse box located under the steering column and found a fuel pump fuse was blown. We replaced it and Vroom this old Disco fired right up!
Stage 4 - While making the 100 mile plus journey back home I lost all power with dash codes lighting up! Initially I thought the alternator had failed while in storage. My lovely wife proceeded to use her vehicle as a charge post , I would drive as far as the battery permitted then she would charge me again. It averaged about 10 miles on 15 minutes of being connected to boosters. Each time we stopped I would use the multi-meter to test different connections, confused that the alternator was pushing 14.25 volts yet the vehicle was only running from a battery. Finally about 0230 in the morning and 75 miles into our journey I found the 150 amp fuse between battery and alternator had gone out. Since all shops were closed we just continued to jump 10 miles at a time until arriving home.
Stage 5 - Everything is running strong with key fobs and internal locks are working, alternator is running the system and charging the battery, and all electrical systems working fine. We have already changed out all fluids and visited an OHV (Off Highway Vehicle) park to show up a few Jeeps ;-) . Everything appears normal but still throwing a P0447 code and my odometer is flashing at me.
