Hi peeps I decided too do my injectors other day which all went fine until put all back together ,I’m getting smoke come up from where the egr was the clamp is leaking should there be a blocking plate in between the two pipes please see pic not best pic try get another didn’t hear anything fall when I took apart so no idea if one should be there or not if not is there a better way to seal pipes thanks a lot guys couldn’t do it without use learning on my feet :)

Is the first photo actually of your EGR pipe, if so the special clamp is not fitted correctly, so maybe that is why you are getting smoke

Your pipe should be at 90 degrees to the EGR. Yours is currently not seated correctly and therefore not sealed.
Undo the clamp, take it out and refit. The lip on the pipe sits in the clamp securely, flush to the EGR.

… even a blanked egr will have that pipe connected ;)
 
Since we don’t see the rest of the EGR valve.

So I think the blanking plate don’t fit, so the clamp won’t fit too.

I was suggesting to put the right a blanking EGR part.

Hi thanks for the replies here’s some more pics I’ve took clamp back off and re fitted still smoke coming out should one pipe actually fit in side the other or just butt up to it because mines not quite long enough to fit inside by a few mill

The whole set up is wrong, the reason the pipe from the aftermarket EGR is most likely because it's to short, also you should not be using a cable tie to hold the hose on, it is part waiting to fail.

Why have you fitted an aftermarket EGR blank? any MOT technician worth his salt should spot the EGR solenoid hose has been blanked of and hanging down, which is a fail.

Why did you not clean out the original EGR and re-fit it if you wanted to go down the road of blanking the EGR then again use the original, gut it and blank the exhaust end job done and it looks original therefore pass any MOT.

The whole set up is wrong, the reason the pipe from the aftermarket EGR is most likely because it's to short, also you should not be using a cable tie to hold the hose on, it is part waiting to fail.

This was already done when bought car ,,was a lot to do on her I’m going through things one at a time this is something else what’s popped up it’s just been through mot and passed , should be there be a blanking plate in between the two pipes where clamp is too hold them together there not blanked off anywhere else.

Hi thanks for reply yours look a proper job not like this bodge ,it’s definitely not blanked off so I need to do this sooner rather than later yer I have no idea how this works that’s why I’m here thanks

Hi was spot on aftermarket egr blank was 5mm too short so wasn’t clamping properly had to take the egr blank off clamp it then re fit egr with a pull and bar must of been cheap aftermarket part to be short I’ll advise anyone to not go that way thanks a lot for help

Ok no problem, do you have a photo of how it's fitted now, because if the exhaust pipe as no support from the EGR then the concertina part may fail in near future.

On either an Auto or a manual.

EGR gas cooler. Fitted to TD4 automatic only.

No idea why only the auto wants cooler gasses ??

Anyone?
I suspect that the plastic inlet manifold was giving issues on the auto, as the engine is working harder than in a manual. If the engine is working harder, then the exhaust gasses will be hotter, which isn't good for a plastic manifold.

Don't want to hijack the thread, but those are the cleanest EGRs i have ever seen. What are you using to clean them?

Scrap out with old hacksaw blade use the back of the blade not the teeth part, then old tooth brush and some swarfega with the grit bits in it, wipe out with old rags, do this several times, finish off with brake cleaner.

Thanks. I'm going to make the effort to keep that and the manifold clean. See if it makes a difference.

It should do, the engine will breath better, note we have a meet at the end of the month you are welcome to attend.
