Why revive an old thread with a new question? this thread is over a year old.

If you mean Depression limiter valve it's in the same housing as the crankcase breather filter. Some peeps change the whole assembly and others just the filter.
The valve controls minimum pressure within the crankcase to prevent excessive flow into the turbo inlet. A blocked filter causes excessive pressure in the crankcase.

I did change the complete Crank Case filter housing so that should cover all. Am not use to searching these treads & sometimes get confused. But thanks again.

What would the BHP gain from an EGR bypass kit be on a TD4???

3.64 on a noo engine - possibly up to 8.96 on an old one. That is of course at the flywheel.

Pretty sure mines pumping out 8.793, i can feel it in my bones but then it's an old engine, definitely at the flywheel of course ........................................................................

Ooooh this is an old one.
Just to throw my two pennies in.
I've bypassed the egr ages ago, it's great for the engine and for performance. As for the enviromental bit (the wife's a bit of a greeny) We run on 2/3 shell diesel and 1/3 bio diesel and Millers at normal dose. The engine loves this mixture and the wife thinks she's not doing as much harm cos I took the egr valve off.
So there and I aint bothered if you think I'm a hypocite or a w*nker.

yep. something like a 1" No. 8 woodscrew and a cable tie. make sure the spigot on the bypass is blocked too, or all your boost will leak out

Regular bowel movements are recommended, as you say the pressure build up can cause the lower intestine to rupture.

Hi, and :welcome2:

The EGR by-pass is a very worthwhile mod on TD4 engines - whether your vehicle is auto or not is immaterial.

Read some of the other threads on EGR and you'll find out all about it.

At the very least disable the EGR, but IMHO it's best to bin it and fit a by-pass.

I agree with Singvogel above,

I'm no mechanic and have very little experience "tinkering" with engines but after reading various threads on this forum and taking heed of any advice it gave me confidence to give it a go. Fitting an EGR bypass is simple, 4 allen bolts and a jubilee clip to remove and thats it.

I should say that mine is an 06 TD4 AUTO Sport, along with the bypass over the last few weeks I've changed out the crankcase filter for the BMW oil seperator, changed the intercooler hoses for silicone ones, changed out most of the filters (National tyres did the oil and oil change) and the best mod of all was fit a Synergy unit and put it on setting 7, without this forum none of that would have been done or to be honest known about.

Hi freely,

Can I suggest that after a couple of weeks you go back over all the hose-clips on your turbo hoses - especially the one at the end of the 90 degree bend where the hose attaches to the EGR by-pass.

A bit of oil tends to collect there and I discovered a drip or 2 there.

I fitted a wider/stronger 'T' bolt hose-clamp on that joint.

I agree with your comments on the usefulness of this forum and especially this thread. Thanks to all concerned. I too have learned a lot.

Just fitted an Allisport EGR Bypass. (Cost £57) Only took me about an hour to fit and I'm glad I did as the valve was well gunked up. Car's got less than 60k miles on the clock so was surprised to see so much build-up in there.
Got a 100 mile run tomorrow, so will feedback after how it gets on.

Just to feedback, the car is so much better.
I've got better resp[once from the accelorator at low speeds, and fuel consumption went from 480mile to 520 miles per tank.

blanked mine off a few days ago cant believe the difference, i am now going to order the bypass kit & clean the manifold and hope for better results
