FL1 - Interesting thread. If I understand correctly the EGR valve opens by vacuum? If that is the case wouldn't just blocking the vacuum feed stop the egr valve opening and effectively remained closed?

Yes it does. So there's no real need to fit an actual bypass, although doing so might help the engine come on boost sooner.
 
So removed my EGR today to fit a 'bypass' and its been replaced previously with a standard one, so it wasnt too bad. However, when I removed the inlet manifold as it was quite mucky, the round ports were about half their original diameter. I have been oven cleaning for about an hour with bottle brushes etc and have most of the **** out, but its not 'clean' by any means!! I just resorted to scraping what I could out of the actual inlets by the injectors as they also were half diameter. Additionally the map sensor hole in the manifold was blocked, as was the sensor itself. That cleaned ok with carb cleaner.

one more clean and i will refit because whatever crap is left, I still expect a big improvement all round ...will let you know ;-)
 
My FL1 passed its MoT the other day with the Bearmach EGR mod fitted, I think it helped that I let things get a little dirty in the engine bay so the bypass didn't stand out.
 
Blanked ours off a few days ago, smoother on pick up, few more m.p.g. no faults showing on dash etc.

Happier now I'm not introducing soot into the combustion chambers!
 
How do you disconnect the electrical wire from the EGR? Does it just pull off?

Full = 480 miles
1/2 = 240 miles
1/4 =110 miles
I personally do not see the need for range to the mile, I could never trust 'range 50 nearest fuel 45, sweet'.
SWMBO's Td4 is always filled up before it gets to 1/4.
 
I found on my car that after fitting the blank it produces alot more blue smoke. Could, of course, be other issues. However after I put my EGR valve back ze smoke is gone. I will retry after I test turbo injectors etc.

Could be the engine's breathing easier enabling it to suck (or being a turbo, blow) any oil lying about in the intake manifold into the engine. I would expect any smoke to reduce after an Italian tune-up.
 
No oil on intake and hoses has been removed to the last bit, crankcase breather seems alight. Will re-install it after a few tune-ups.
 
Nevermind was a split hose in my case + a misbehaving injector. Now egr is blanked and zero smoke.
I feel no difference in performance or mpg but I know that black death is no longer building up in the clean manifold.

Hi all, just spent a whil re reading through the earlier comments then this last page full.
I have not yet done a full filter change except the oil & filter last year on purchase of my Td4.
I have all the filters in boxes / packets plus a new shiny delete kit, but its still - "I`ll do it one day soon" thing.. In the grand plan of things, a de soot/ muck clean out, new filters, possibly another oil & filter change, but I need to replace both front lower arms, plus I bought the anti roll bar kit while at it..
Seems the next thing to buy is best oven cleaner and a stiff brush....
My Td4 is a high miler at approx 185.000 miles now, but TBH I dont really go far now as I`m a little over retirement age at 72 - lol,
but I did fit the remote engine thermostat kit in "top hose" before last winter took hold to warm the engine quicker on short runs, still working great..
I do "my stuff" at my speed now so in no real rush, but, am looking forwards to see IF/ any/ how much gunge has built up in the inlet manifold...
After owning my old 3 door Disco for 10 years, I wondered how I would get on with my Hippo, but now some 10 ? months later am quite used to it (but still look lovingly at older Discos) - can I be cured - LOL

Hi all, I not been on here for some time but i have an MOT very soon but have work to do/ service stuff/ anti roll bar links and bushes but still have a shiny new EGR valve delete to fit / maybe a few coats of matt black spray needed ? how is it stand with current MOTs on the egr delete /// My 54 plate TD4 has done 188.000 miles but I dont do many miles at all now, I worked out since I purchased it over a year ago I now average 240 miles per month.. Sunday I did a fast 15 miles to and return to the local big hospital In Colchester for my grand daughter who Is "with child" as she had pains bless her, but a naughty but 90 back I hoped warm up and blow out any cobwebs in my diesel.. Small point, but would filling up with Posh Shell expensive diesel benefit it on MOT test time ? just asking, as I was once told years ago that "city Diesel" was the stuff to be using at MOT time in a previous vehicle but cant get city diesel here on the coast in north essex.. I hope all Is well with you members during our poxy weather and covid times... I not been to work for the last 17 years thankfully so retirement tends to keep you out of realities of life.
