Has got any opinions on the use of uprated steering dampers like the terrafirma normal one? Do uprated steering dampers generally make the steering heavier than o.e items? The steering feels heavy on my 90 and before I start delving into swivel preloads and steering box adjustments I want to rule out the damper holding the steerin back as it doesn't self centre either. I've tried a rtc damper and didn't really get along with it so I switched back but as said the steering feels tight and vague on the road with no straight ahead position. The 300tdi discos I've previously had have been nice light steering and I've never noticed anything particularly out of the norm.
Any help is much appreciated guys.

Take your damper off and check to see if its still got enough pressure ... if its failed it wont be returning , and will put load on the steering. i run a terrafirma damper, and all is good, but i had one fail, after only a year , and it made the steering vague.:)

It's only done about 30 miles lol, as I replaced the rtc damper before test so I doubt it's failed just yet. Thanks for the quick reply though any input is appreciated as I simply haven't got the time to start messing with preloads anytime soon. At least I can get an idea of where the problem is lying.

well it aint fooked then is it.. have you changed your panhard bushs ? also does your power steering use fluid, does it bubble up . so what make damper you running now , as some people on here have had problems with them not self centre... try doing a search also.:)

Yeah I've done the searching, steering doesn't use any fluid but im buy sure on the bubbling, again bushes haven't been checked as yet. It's a terrafirma tf82 is it?? The non return to centre damper.

You been over anything rough lately? Fitting a steering guard or anything? If the damper or track rod is fouling against anything it won't rtc.
