Hi Guys,

So my ECU got wet last week, infact everything got wet.

After i foolishly switched the engine off i couldn't get it to restart on petrol. Although (luckily) i did get it to start and drove home fine on LPG.

It will crank nicely and has a good strong battery on it. but there is no sign of life that its going to start.

I've had a couple of plugs out and they are absolutely dry so its not getting fuel.

Also when it was on LPG it was idling at about 2000rpm when normally it would be about 750ish so seeing as the only thing the EFI ECU does when its running on gas is control the stepper motor which will be fully wound in would it be reasonable to assume that the ECU is goosed?

Just wondered if that makes any logical sense at all to anyone?

Its a 3.9 RRC btw

Thanks in advance for any ideas about my theory.

not sure But I have a good ecu in vgc which I will be selling soon if I you need one!

how much ££?

I'm guessing this these older EFI types you can just swap straight out no reprogramming etc?

yeah they just plug in

whatevr they go for on ebay mate, let me have a look

well the cheapest I can see is £75 and they go up to £150

You can have it for £50 plus postage

I can post next week , as I am wating for the car its a spare for to sell. I could just see my ecu packing up as the buyer for the car turns up lol

Well for anyone that cares my theory was right, i borrowed a known good ECU and it fired up straight away.

It looks like i've got a busted alternator now though but there you go. Can't have your cake and eat it.

All this retrofit LPG stuff which is basically to run a V8 on Mini money appears to be nothing but a continuous pain in the arse.
Nearly all the V8 threads are LPG originated.
Why not just accept that a V8 running on petrol is better than LPG and if you can't stand the heat...get out of the kitchen.
The same thing goes for those running BMW diesel engines on old Chip oil to save a few pennies and then post that the car has got no "Oomph"..should I "Chip" it....You have already tried that, now "Fish" around for something that will cut your running expenses by 99% and give the same performance and 60 MPG.
O.K., I'm back from the Pub and that has to be taken into account :beer2::beer2::beer2:
But at the end of the day, you are talking about trying to run a top of the range car on Trabant money.
The majority of owners who run them as they are designed on either petrol or diesel and take the fuel costs on the chin, have far fewer problems than those who believe that modifications, that can halve the running costs, suffer and have greater reliability, if such a thing exists with a LR.
Let's face it, there are enough potential problems as it is without throwing other additonal ingredients in the pot.

erm ok...

Thanks for the input i guess. I don't think you understand though. My problem was caused by the EFI ECU going under water.

The only mention of LPG was to say it ran on gas but not petrol. Which made me start to suspect ECU issues.

for what its worth i agree with what your saying. The only reason my RRC has LPG is it was there when i bought it. I was LUCKY on this occasion that it had some gas in the tank which got me home. HOWEVER my setup is optimised for petrol running and i rarely (as in when petrol doesn't work!) run on LPG.

Anyway i fixed it so no more gas. I think i'll keep a bit in the tank though just in case.

I agree with most of that, but there is nowt wrong with properly done home made biodiesel, lots of farmers now growing oil seed rape and making their own fuel, just needs the right kit. There is a large biodiesel plant in the next village, all the production goes to Germany as it's currently illegal to use the stuff in a road vehicle in France:( Living in the country, it's not unusual to have your tank dipped looking for either red or home brew:mad: so I won't be trying it for a while yet:rolleyes:

nah I triple checked before I bought it and apparently they didnt change. I plugged it in to mine to check and it ran just the same :)

yeah no probs , mines non cat too. the tune select resistor that chooses that is part of the loom of your car not the ecu so its no problem you will be fine :)

ok mate , its ready when you want it, it will be on ebay next week if you dont :D
