Being an ancient Landrover enthusiast, however but a first user I wonder if there is anyone within the LZ communinity who can advise me on the following:
The "Lords of the Chips" have different opinions whether it is possible or not, to effectively reduce the fuel consumption by Eco-tuning. Some of the tuners say that Eco-tuning will slightly improve HP and torque - as a welcome side-effect - but promise an average 10-20% reduction of fuelconsumption. Others say that this is not possible and the promise is a mere salestrick - these Lords do not offer Eco tuning for petrol engines, only for diesels.
Who has experience/wisdom with any kind of chiptuning - i.e. ecotuning?

I think this is funny,you have a 4ltr v8,2tonne 4wd house brick and you want better fuel consumption....
I have yet to find a company that can do anything with the type of Motronic ecu your car runs.
The faq section at the bottom of the Eco tune home page will save you more than a chipping.And having done extensive road testing whilst tuning DII v8's I can tell you that they are already well set up for economy - you need to push them quite hard to get them to run open loop.(Ie,on a fixed fuel map,not closed loop off the oxygen sensors.)

you want to save fuel, dont drive it.

like eightinavee says you have got the wrong vehicle for economy and even if you could get 10-20% better economy that only works out about 2-3mpg in a v8 so you would struggle to get back what you paid for the chip in the first place.

if you want cheaper running costs then lpg is an option but that itself brings its own possible problems.


sell it an get a doozil (or a car )

Thank you eightinavee for sharing your experience. And as for economics.............
The point is that several tuners claim the gain, and others say it is impossible, and me being an unknowing, but curious consumer.........I was wondering.
I have a car running on LPG: for economics , the "brickhouse" stands above politics and economics.

Why dont you contact them and ask if they can modify your car - like I said I've yet to see any place who can do anything with those Motronic ecu's. I cant see that they can do too much with it even if they do have the ability.The system is about as good as it could be with narrow band oxy sensors with the help of twin knock sensors.Without the now common wide band sensors I cant see how it could be much better.

Okay Eightinavee - obviously you know a lot more about these thing than I do. I will however try to translate the offer I was made:
Aspen tunig ..........high quality and optimum service.........custom made according to the customer's specific wishes. Aspen system is using the latest technology: chiptuning through external software, which means that an external computer will be linked to the main ECU. Why: a)in order to program the software as precise and actual as possibe and b) because the main ECU computer simply doesn't possess enough memory to facilitate this...............an additional advantage of this method is that the main ECU remains available for works updates and alternations.Furthermore if something is wrong with the external software programming, the car will remain usable because of the original ECU...............the external software can be disconnected and transfered to future cars - software can easily be adapted to that car optimized specifications
That is what I was told by a firm stating eco-tuning and better mpg is possible. Another firm that stated it was not possible, is however not applying this external mount next to the main ECU.
Are you familiar with this technology? Or better, does an Aspen-systeem ring any bells to you?

Ook is de ESM module te herprogrammeren zodat deze ook mee genomen kan
worden naar een andere auto.

Thought so,they dont do anything to the original ecu.I guess its like the plug in powerbox things used mainly on diesels for better performance.
The only way I would go for one of these is on a month's money back trial.In that time you could work out for yourself how good it was.I wouldnt hold your breath......
Making sure the car is running properly and how you drive it would probably be a better bet.Just remember at all times what you are using.

About the eco tuning on the Disc: Did not hold my breath and "challenged" the lord of the Chips to allow a month trial or monyback deal. Guess what...................
No such thing.
