Right guys, just fitted a eberspacher d2 airtronics heater to my 110 td5 2004 defender. installation went well with no major problems, but one has developed since.

My problem is that when i set the 7 day timer for the unit to start heating the landy up in the morning, as well as heating the car, its also setting off the factory fitted alarm. which as you can imagine doesnt make me to popular with the neighbours.

Has anyone who has fitted one of these heaters had the same problem and if so how did you overcome it, i dont want to leave the alarm off all through the winter.

Didnt know i could do that, isnt that needed for the cool down period when it switches off or for safety overheating purposes.

A better question would be, have you even read the instruction booklet yet. answer - im a bloke of course i havent.

In all seriousness, just fitted it and had my head stuck in the installation book all weekend so gave it a trial run with the timer this morning, the result being the alarm going off. just looking for quick answer to the problem from my betters and to save me reading another instruction booklet.

Also helps anyone else who has the same problem in the future using the search function and might save them being woken up at the back of 6am by an angry neighbour.

its the air movement inside ur cab setting off the ultrasonics on ur window pillar u need to see if u can turn them off or u could cover them u just wont be protected by ur alarm unless they open a door
 
Can I ask someone who has these D2 heaters from Eberspacher, or similar from Webasto.

I am considering one of these, however the main reason on top of normal heating is because we camp with a roof tent with tourer kit, so we sit behind the landrover surrounded by tent and with the roof tent above.

My logic is, The D2 could face outwards and warm this area in the evenings. Its probably a total area of the same as the 110 inside.

Is this kind of unit likely to be able to keep up ? We have a great normal heater in the land rover and if we sit with the engine running and on full it does also warm the tourer kit.. but that's far from ideal. Surely this kit would be far more heat than that directed to the right area with the flex hose as well.
 
In answer to the OP -

You cant turn the fan off on the d2. If you could, you wouldnt get the heat out of it, and it would probably over heat / thermal cutout etc.

As has been said, if you have ultrasonics (or whatever theyre called) as part of the alarm, to detect air movement / vibration etc. and you blow a fan at them, its not going to work.... same as if you leave a window slightly open - the air movement sets off the alarm.

Its either the eberspacher or the ultrasonics.


One possible alternative, which would involve money -

One of the D4W units, plumbed into the engine. The cab will be cold, but the engine coolant hot, so your heater matrix will work immediately - this would also give you the benefits of hot starts all the time.
