He is advertising it as basically stripped of all identifying marks yet in pics can see the vin plate. Do we have anyone local to it?

I got a reply he said "read the ****ing ad properly there is not ****ing vin number"

How rude

Think the constant questions are getting to him?

Definately needs someone local to report it to the plod or pay him a visit and look/see

I suspect the law will eventually be changed to curtail the theft/breaking of vehicles but it will be a blanket ban on all 2nd hand car parts. Vehicles will have to be 100% stock or will fail the MOT.

Already being talked about for motorcycles

He has replied again

as far as i am aware the chassis looks too good to be that old so i think personally it has had a replacement chassis which would not be stamped any way the bloke before me had used as offroader for past three years and i have done sthe same for the past 6months i have just bought another one so i thought i could sell i am running low on space and have to move and its too good to scrap maybe sombody will use for parts

Thats what i thought too but surely if its good a tip top chassis you would just break it as the chassis would fetch what ? 500-600 for a good one

There are several pictures of the engine bay in the auction, they're not very good pictures though, where abouts is the vin tag in the engine bay?

It should be back left in front of the driver on the brake vacuum servo unit or next to it.

I can't blow the pictures up enough to see a vin tag on the servo, it could be there.

Our hero isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, he says in the listing he gave £800 for it but it's in his feedback that he bought it for £720, just for starters.

To be fair, he hasn't nicked it, if anything the guy he bought it from is more sus, he claims to have bought that and another old land rover from a scrap yard.

It seems unlikely anyone would weigh in a defender with even the roughest scrapper making £700 to £1000, it could be that they were scrappage vehicles, hence the id's being stripped, but surely they'd only be sold to registered breakers?
