More of that tinkering I was talking about LOL

You will end up needing to buy a rotten old Discovery 1 to come out in as your's is going to be showroom fresh by the time you've finished lol

it won’t know what hit it after it’s done, lol

still, if u get bored, there’s plenty to do ;):cool:

The jury is out on whether I'm in the dog house at the minute, if she gives me the silent treatment I'll bring Hob Nobs OK :D

she gives me the silent treatment

Standing state of affairs in our house - she's got the raving arse with me as I type. She was supposed to be going out with her mate today, arranged weeks back so I said I'd spend a day messing about with cars at home on my own. Her mate blows out Wednesday - not my problem, I'm doing what I'm doing. So today comes, and she wants me to go to Boots with her as she wants to get a new pair of glasses and wants me to help her choose (which I did), and then wants to have a leisurely day with a coffee etc.

No luv - not my fault your mate blew out, you knew what I had planned today so don't change my day so suit you.

And then the row started.

Most trouble I ever got in was trying to instigate ‘blue’ (boy) and ‘pink’ (girl) jobs around the house.....

I've had a reprieve, did my servicing as planned and have told her we should go out for dinner tonight, made it sound like "oh babes we haven't really spent enough time together lately, why don't we go out to eat tonight" bless her, she thinks I'm being romantic, silly burd ain't realized it's my turn to cook LOL :D:D:D

That'll do it with a gurly gurl, no such worries in my house, we both muck in and she'll come and help with the cars when I need a hand :cool::cool:

You old smooth talker you ... lol

I went for a Bearmach system in the end, arrived today and look good. Heavy gauge steel and 3 year warranty. complete system for £110. And the weekend looks good weather perfect for crawling under the old girl. Wire brush and underseal at the ready to keep the chassis coated whilst I'm there :)
After a morning with my good lady, breakfast at local pub, quick shop and then back home to install the exhaust. She kindly sat with me and passed spanners and tools as I was struggling to get the old bits off. Exhaust manifold nuts were solid so had to resort to firing up the compressor and using impact wrench. Luckily nuts came off and didn't shear. But I couldn't remove the downpipe. Even loosened the gearbox mount to lift it a bit to get the pipe over the cross member but still couldn't find a way and jacked the chassis a bit to give more clearance underneath. The pipe hits the sump and won't twist past it. What was I doing wrong ? Does the crossmember need to come off ?
As the downpipe was still solid, I've installed the mid and back section. At least they look good; I'll tackle the downpipe another day when I know how :)

Yep gearbox x-member needs to come off.

To get it back on you will likely need to jack the chassis rails apart slightly. I did with mine. I used a bottle jack and 2 heavy bits of wood to spread the pressure. Then the crossmember went back in - needed a bit of persuading with a mallet but it went fine.

I took the opportunity to paint the chassis under the x-member aswell and put dinitrol in the crossmember

Ah, thanks for confirmation. Yep, always good to take advantage of bits coming off and being able to see more exposed chassis to give them all a good paint and wax. I'll wait for another nice weather day and finish it off. Thanks for quick response.

I don’t know if it’s posisble to do with the x-member in situ - I couldn’t see a way and faffed around a lot so just took it out in the end

You did a great job with that last route mate would be great if you wanted to plan another one.

I bought two new SD cards for the camera and a new suction mount for the camcorder to stick on the bottom of the windscreen, my action cam records sound but no video the useless thing, was OK when I had it under the drone last time :(

Just gotta test drive my Disco after the output bearings and good to go :D

Just gotta find and fit an aerial for the cb, fitted it already but not found a mount that I like that fits where I want to fit it.

No worries, I'll get the maps out one eve this week and see what I can work out.
We ought to start looking at some dates too, weekend 3rd/4th March might be a goer for me (so long as the management has not already arranged something!) Otherwise between holidays and on call weekends I'm stuck till mid April!

On a side note, any of you have much experience with tyres? I'm currently on 235/70/16 Grabber ATs and thinking of going for something slightly more mud biased, is it worth going for 265/70/16s for a bit of extra clearance (I figure anything larger I need to think about chassis lifts and whatnot) or just stick with the same size as the ATs but with a mud pattern?

Tyre wise, I noticed you already have spacers which is good and will give you the 265 width under your arches and height without compromising your steering lock too much.

If it were me (and likely to be again soon!) I would look at the Cooper ST MAXX, all terrain tread but with a bit more bite, look at bankz 110 double cab in members vehicles, he just switched from ST PROs and he's very happy with them.

Super, look forward to another magical mystery tour :)

3/4 works for me.

Alternative is get a cheap set of steels and got some 7.50 15’s on the and just put them on for off road use.

My Michelin zxls are pretty decent in mud but I wouldn’t want to live with them all the time on the road as a daily driver

Looks like I'm good for the 4th but not the 3rd, had a look at trailwise earlier and have a few ideas, re-cover a couple of the Hindhead lanes and have a few more that sound good!

4th is clear for me, could also do 3rd at a push.
I have Michelin ZXLs which were great on the last trip, had no issues with the muddy field. I have them on as standard, so use them for all driving. They serve well for driving at 50 around country lanes on the way to work. The tread seems to last forever too so ages before they will need changing.
