Hi all,
Ive noticed that the eas pump seems to be running alot more when im driving the rr (95, 4.6 v8 ). I can leave the car overnight or for a couple of days and she doesn't loose height. Ive parked the car with the engine running and bonnet up listening to the pump run it runs for a while then shuts down and at the same time it sounds like a pressure relief valve releases then a few minutes later it will start again build up pressure shut down again but this time no hiss off air. Im good with the tools but this is the first eas ive had so wanted advice before i do anything.

Thanks Dave

Do the diaphragm checks in the "How to". Maybe a leaking pressure side.

Most likely a leak, how old are the airbags?

He says no drop overnight Keith. Maybe a weak compressor or slight diaphragm leak. Blows off initially, then pressure side leak causes overheat and compressor is shutting down via thermal switch. That would be my guess.

True, but splits open and close where the bags fold under. In any case, if the bags are original they should be replaced on safety grounds.

Yep correct. Could be several reasons some of the bags seen on here recently should be failed on MOT, why they aren't is beyond belief.

Thanks for the replies,
Will i need to use the eas software to perform the tests in the how to section or will it be ok to do them with out it as it doesn't say?

cheers dave

you don't need the EAS software to check the airbags or diaphragm, but if it throws a fault you will need the software to clear it.
I can supply the cable and software on disc along with my airbag replacement guide and a copy of RAVE.:D

If all in good order and the RR stationary, how often should the compressor run?

The compressor should only run when the air pressure in the storage side drops to below 120 PSI. If there are no height changes being made and no leaks in the service side or the storage side it should not run at all.

It's a curious thing, but with the bonnet up, the compressor cycles on a regular basis on mine, shut the bonnet and it stops. No idea why or how this should be.

Mine does this as well and I think the old DSE did too. I've never found out why either. Really odd.
