Hoping someone has an idea on what is the cause of my problem. Suspension right down on off side, front and back, near side appeared normal height. When i started her up pump audible and normal ride height light on dash flashing, car levelled out with what I believe to be just the air that was retained in near side, light flashes forever, height does not changed. Drove home approx 10 miles, light still flashing, car almost on bump stops, but no EAS fault registered.

All help gratefully received.

Air cannot be swopped side to side. Car levelled with what was in the air tank. Check pump for pressure. Check for leak from exhaust port. If pump is good and there is a leak from exhaust port, check diaphragm valve for a split or diaphragm solenoid valve for a leak.

Wammers is probably right, but it's worth checking the airbags for leaks and also the pipework.
Download the free software from www.rswsolutions.com and read the faults.

coil conversion;)

No no no no no  i dont understand why people change to coil spring... the P38 is getting on a bit now and nothiong last forever, the airbags should be renewed and looked after as much as any part of the eng or gearbox, people forget about this and wait until its too late then when driving on the bump stops suddenly decide to ruin a dam good vehical with coil springs.
I off road mine with the airbags etc and its perfect, i use mine when im goin fancy places or droppin people off etc etc and the ride is smooth and stable, yet my matee converted his to coil spring and the ride just isnt as good.... LITTLE rant over now.... FACT; P38's are getting on a bit now... look after your tool and it will look after you. :blabla: :D:D:D

Agreed, anyone who changes to springs is a whimp and down right rotter. There is not an EAS system that cannot be fixed for less than the price of the spring convertion. Unless everything on it is knacked and that is very highly unlikely.

Sorry I don't agree, even if everything is knacked it's still possible to repair for less than a good coil spring conversion:)

Some of us change to springs because we can walk out to the car in the morning and it works, ie not sitting on its bump stops. Seems like a bit of RR snobbery here, if its not built with it, it should stay that way. My P38 has springs, easy job to do, is stable and handles well, it is not quite as good as the EAS but once fitted no more problems. I know a guy who spent £1200 on his EAS, he now has springs and a mate of mine said if he got another later P38 he would convert it straight away even if the EAS was working. Guys its down to choice not for you to criticise. Heresy to some- peace of mind to others so get over it.

Each to their own. I prefer the P38 with air suspension. As for the bloke who spent £1200.00 most of that will have been labour. He should have taken it to someone who knew what they were doing.

Wammers you totaly took the word outa my mouth... ive seen people on fleabay sellin rangies and saying they have converted to springs as tho its a good thing,
It put me right off and some of them where real good lookin clean Rangies.
Will people still convert.... probrably...
Would they be convinced otherwise if they dove on air then test drove on springs... i think so.:rolly::crazy_driver:

No problem if that's what you want, but follow the argument through and surely you'll talk yourself into buying a simpler and more reliable car than a P38? Another issue is that once you've coiled it then it's modified, and insurers will use that fact to increase your premium.

Yeah I suppose, but if we wanted reliability we would all drive Landcruisers, I got the RR because it was the right price, bodywork is in great condition, electrics mostly work (recurring abs light) they are the best looking (in my opinion) and I like the smoothness and economy of the BMW engine it seams really suited to the auto box. I know you guys will hate this but she drive really really well on the coils and is very stable, I have no truck with those who want to keep the purity of thier RR (good on them) I just get a little ticked off with those who think they know better, coils was my choice on my vehicle and for me it works. All in all though this is a great forum, I was on the Pajero forum but sadly that truck is gone and I did not think that I would find a forum as good but glad to see I have found one. Keep up the good work and controversy.PS my insurance did not change. (check with your own first)

Hi dave, hello thank you and welcome lol, I no what you are saying but to maintain the EAS is quite cheap compared to coil conversion, you can get 4 new air bags for around £260ish and I've seen valve blocks second hand for between £80 and £100 and also the compressor I've seen for ruffly same price, I'd of thort you would only change these once (not all, just 1 of the list etc etc) soooo personaly to me it seems far more cost effective to keep the EAS working as it should then the value of the vehical isn't affected as much and u glide when u ride lol.

Hi thanks for the welcome, mine is used mainly to tow the boat and to take my grown up kids snow boarding in the winter, trouble is that when I'm at home I tend to park the car and run around in the rangie more and more, she does polish up very nicely and I like it in the met red, love the driving position and although I liked the paj the engine in the RR is much better, sorry to the original post I seem to have hi-jacked the thread, hope you get sorted out soon.

Hi len

I belive what is happening is that first you have a leak in your nearside pipework thats why it was down as the reciver has a non return valve that wont have drained however if the leak is about the capacity of the pump you will not see a fault code as long as the pressure switch sees pressure it will keep running but your car will not gain enough height to register with the ecu hence light flashing

Regards

just to reiterate what has been said the EAS is a good system but needs a certain amount of attention preventative rather than wait till it fails I have had p38 s for over 10 years and never had an EAS failure but I have replaced bits when I feel their performance is compromised as for" Some of us change to springs because we can walk out to the car in the morning and it works, ie not sitting on its bump stops." it just means you dont look after it if you did the same with the engine it would fall apart as well nowt for nowt

Well said, on coils you drive... on air you arrive....:D
