The FTDI chip set does need a driver loaded BEFORE it's plugged into the computer. As I said before, not all adaptors have a full RS232 implementation, the RTS signal is crucial, if it's not there it no worky.Despite the fact I bought a USB adaptor cable from Rangerover specialist that was supposed to be first class I took on board these comments a while ago. I bought a FTDI manufactured external board with FTDI chipset so there would be no need for a driver.
As for Nanocom, forgive my ignorance but what's that ?
If you get the Green Good Idle but no comms, for sure there is no communication and that will almost certainly be down to the adaptor and driver.
