Despite the fact I bought a USB adaptor cable from Rangerover specialist that was supposed to be first class I took on board these comments a while ago. I bought a FTDI manufactured external board with FTDI chipset so there would be no need for a driver.
As for Nanocom, forgive my ignorance but what's that ?
The FTDI chip set does need a driver loaded BEFORE it's plugged into the computer. As I said before, not all adaptors have a full RS232 implementation, the RTS signal is crucial, if it's not there it no worky.
If you get the Green Good Idle but no comms, for sure there is no communication and that will almost certainly be down to the adaptor and driver.
