Hi All,

Recently purchased another Land Rover, this time a 2001 RR P38 4.6 - she has kept me very busy! (ABS / EAS / CC / missing bits / oil leaks / HVAC Screen).

However I'm having an issue with the EAS - well a few to be fair, but one I just can't get my head around.

First off didn't rise - rebuilt the compressor seals - all good again.

Then had a number of leaks in the valve block, and the diaphragm valve was split - after taking care of these she holds air and no longer drops to bumps over night.

However since fixing the above the left side of the vehicle over inflates and goes way beyond in its target values. The rear more than the front. Its set at 109 bits but it get up to 130 bits while trying to level out.

When viewing the outside of the vehicle it visible moved up and down as it trys to level.

It has a new sensor on the right rear (tried to inspected it and the broke off in my hand), and it has been calibrated by me to try and combat this issue.

I've tried dropping the target height on the left rear to see if i can get it level, but change it too far (to 100) and it goes into melt down and throws an error "Sensor data not valid", clear the fault and it set the target back to 109 and goes back to being weird.

My thoughts are at this point the rear left sensor has a dead spot - i would investigate but they are so brittle I'm pretty sure it will result in a new one as soon as i go near it.

The only joker in the pack that has me doubting this is that the NRVs have a guide cone to make sure the seal lines up with the hole - this was worn when I did the seals - seems it was rubbing on the side of the block. Could this cause an issue?

@kurtjohnson10 can supply nrv's if he has any left.
 
If the sensor is going out of limits, try swapping them left to right and see if there is any improvement..
 
Getting the arm released from the radius arm can be a pain if the steel has corroded inside the rubber.

This could ruin the sensor..

No problem but i doubt you will get them through the post before xmas now with ll the restrictions just been added.
 
When the valve block was rebuilt, all the solenoids went back in the right place?

Yes, took the block back out and traced all the wires into the pack to check colours just to double check.
Getting the arm released from the radius arm can be a pain if the steel has corroded inside the rubber.

This could ruin the sensor..

Yeah, I snapped the plastic lugs off trying to release the the right side one to inspect, that's before i got the very rusted on nuts.
 
Had another play today, it's not the sensor on the rear left, swapped it for a new one and no change.

However since last playing with it I left the upper tail gate (slightly) open and over the course of 3 days the front left dropped to the bumps. So I still have leaks, I'll get that sorted first.

I also have another thing to try, but I'll let you all know once I try it, as if this is the cause, it will be my own stupidity! :oops:

What are the target bit values for all four corners ? More than a few bits left-right could cause weird levelling issues.

Also maybe make a set of calibration blocks (normal height will do at first) and check the sensor values when the car is level, but not adjusting (door open, etc.)

Thanks for the info, I had calibrated on blocks prior, and will do again. But this that wasn't the problem for the rear left going mad. This was my stupidity - I mixed up two of the plungers (Inlet and RL), and as the plungers were of a different type it sent the system a little mad. I've correct the error and all is well again - other than the newly found leak.

I will sort your set of nrvs you want after xmas day, i wont bother posting them now they will be sat in the post office until after xmas day
 
Make sure your suspension pipes coming from the block are in their correct places.
Also inside the passenger foot well, there is the kick panel. The white connectors in there will most likely need to be removed and soldered together. All 19 if my memory serves correctly. This can lead to odd behavior from the eas.
My son's would jump upto full height and drop back down to some kind of level then repeat. Emptying the tank and running the compressor almost constantly. The blocks being removed sorted that!;)
