I have been testing a Theory recently ..................

I am one of those guys that NEVER use the H/Brake when parked in my drive (just leave it in "P")

However................. I have noticed that if I DO NOT pull the H/Brake on the EAS "Sits Down" over night.....

If I DO pull the H/Brake on .... IT DOESN'T!!!!

I've run thru Rave & there is No Ref to this at all ...... I'm thinking here that I've seen loads of posts saying "I'm on the Bump Stops in a morning is there a problem with my EAS?" when really there isn't a problem at all they have just NOT applied the H/Brake

Am I correct in this ????? seems strange that Rave says nothing about it at all!!

MUST admit mines manual box,but i usually leave it in gear +it goes down owernight, its laid up at the minute but ill give it a go in the garage and let you know......dave

UPDATE!!!!

If yer DO NOT "Engage" the handbrake it WILL sit down Also if you DO "Engage" the Handbrake & NOT LOCK IT ( Its in yer garage) it WILL ALSO "Sit Down"

So..... Handbrake ON & Car LOCKED EAS stays "As Exited"

Handbrake OFF OR door UNLOCKED EAS "Sits Down"........

This from Landrover Mech at Local dealership ...... & NO it IS NOT mentioned in RAVE ANYWHERE!!!!! He only found out about this little GEM of info after Customers who had had ALL their Bags changed came back to complain that they're car had SAT DOWN AGAIN!!! over night!!

I had a long Convo with him over a coffee & asked "Whats BEST" then

Rock & a Hard place... if you keep em "UP" & the system pressurised the seals will fail, if you "Let Em Sit" the constant inflate/deflate will "Perish" the bags................

YOUR CHOICE GUYS!!!

Handbrake on and car locked it will still go down if it is not parked on level ground. The only thing that freezes or locks the EAS is having a door open. At least that is the way mine works, you can hear the solenoids clicking after it is parked and if you bounce a corner it clicks some more as it trys to self level.

Unless you have a leak, the self leveling should stop well before it reaches the bump stops so it should always be "pressurised". The BECM checks for level every 6 hours when parked in case the car sags at one corner.
No way will constant inflate/deflate cause the bags to perish, rain mud and salt take care of that and rubber ages.

Hi Guys - My P38 lives in a garage is never locked and doesn't sit down overnight.
Handbrake on, keys on a hook in the house, car unlocked.
