Hi everyone.

Well it looks like my P38 is putting together a list of problems to get fixed all in one go.
Last night I had the EAS FAULT and Christmas tree lights appear on the dash problem. The extended ride hight light on and no control of the height at all. It hasn't sunk to the bump stops though.
I have looked around on the internet and found it to more than likely be a height sensor or the relay?
How can I find out what sensor or relay it is please without replacing every single one?
Do I have to go to a Main Dealer for a £40 diagnostics sting?

Thanks,

Phil

I had this same issue with my 95 P38. What I found was occuring was when I turned on the ignition it was automatically firing up the compressor for the EAS and pushing the suspension right up.

I took a "first diagnostic" approach to this matter and removed the fuse for the EAS, and then replaced it.

It has been fine ever since. I am not saying that this is the fix to the problem, but it may be a useful first shout before you go to any main dealer.

Goog luck, F_P

Hi, I've been off line for a while.
Well I will try that approach, but this is what I have discovered:
Dry / normal rain and after 4 days the car behaved itself. - Fine. Up until today when I decided to go off roading with lots of puddles etc. -Nothing big, just a muddy bumpy track. Switch engine on later and the faults back. So it must be water related!!
Any ideas anyone?
Where can I check for water getting into something?

-- Update.
Went to check out the fault by checking relays nad fuses. The fault had gone again.
Then out shopping it came back. Seems my RR is scared of off roading in the wet!
The passenger side front corner seemed to ride higher than the rest of the car at one point. It seems that substantial water will cause the problem, not road water. Splashing into something electrical in the engine bay?????

hi, just reading your old post as i have the same problem with the eas and was wondering if you ever solved it?

please mail back any solutions
thanks

sounds like water ingress into one of the height sensors, but would be interested to know if the OP sorted it.

Matt.

Hi, Matt is correct, there is a known issue with height sensors and water ingress, if you take them off but do not disconnect, you may be able dry them out. If you disconnect you will need a re-height calibration performed. Andy

hi guys i had a "Eas Fault" Appear on my dash today and all the lights came on the height level indicator tho it was on the right heght the same thing happend again when i came back to RR to drive it home

This time i took a while for it to come on first it leveled it self then came the error again

any ideas guys i came home removed both filters tried to start it without the filters it went up with out showing any errors

i have left it in the higest setting to see if it lowers it self

do i need to get the codes cleared or could it be a worn compressor

hi, mine does this if you play wih the height too much and sometimes if you have been driving for a while it just decides to show the fault and the flashing lights.

usually if i just turn the car off for a lil while its fine, it just does it every couple of days or so, not just when its wet

with yours mate i think the compressor overheats mine does that mine takes ages to go up if i play with it for a while if you keep going up and down i was reading it heats up and needs to cool

hi guys jus wanted to know if the compressor ment to keep pumping and stopping if the car is on a stright level ground? mine pumps stops and pumps and keeps doing this does it indicate a leak somewhere or is the eas ecu confusing the compressor

hi guys any update on this? does your pump keep pumping and stopping even if the jeep is on a level ground? i checked few pipes with soapy water no bubbles so nothing seems to be leaking air.

I have a 99 P38 and I experience a similar problem: When driving EAS fault comes up and everything stalls with all lights on. The car stays at high position. I shall try replacing the relays tomorrow. I was wondering when Phil says "took out the fuse and replaced it" which fuse is this? The fuse or the relay?

Hi I had same problem, compressor kept pumping .aes fault showing, difficulty maintaining selected ride hight etc. Took it to inverness 4x4 and Hamish Grant diagnosed it straight away. It was the compressor seal which was knackered. He replaced seal and serviced compressor all for £121 and bingo she is working spot on. Dont go changing air bags until you have checked compressor

I found out that a solution may be if you select a hight and then lock the suspension, thus eliminating the "computer choosing". It then runs fine and you get rid of many of the errors except maybe the ones generated by the hight sensors.

EAS Fault comes on every so often selecting max hight at the same time. It stays there. When resetting the error is "Constantly high pressure".
Any ideas much appreciated.

Thanks,
