Symlise(spelling?) on the Bay of E do a good seal and liner kit....steer clear of the Dutch seals, they are reported to be pants!

as im going to the breakers tomorrow

how do you get this lot out in 1 go ? as it may be handy to do so for suture spares and get all the other bits

P38 RANGE ROVER AIR COMPRESSOR PUMP AND VALVE BLOCK AND DRIVER PACK 94-02 | eBay

but then its price depending what they want for it, and if its there, but im thinking i may be able to get just the compressor cheaper and say its a bloody wiper motor or something haha

Remove all the air lines, electrical connector, unbolt compressor and then unbolt box from wing...simple and I am sure there is not a bolt under the valve block!!

As for the refurb kit....if your pump doesn't sound like death, I am sure you won't need the crank and piston too....

I only took the the barrel off as we were outside in the peeing rain but I felt no play in the crank. The piston seal and barrel are FUBAR. Real nasty spot of wear on the barrel and the seal is really best described as being in tatters. I was surprised the system had gone into hard fault because of the compressor. I didn't realise the compressor could raise a fault code if I'm honest. There was no "P" code I just had "compressor faulty" written on the Nano.

Hi polsta,I ordered the full kit from landyair a good few months ago and was very happy with it all, while I had the comp out I just replaced all the seals right through the solenoid block at the same,a couple of hours and job done, just a thought while you have it in bits

Watch the reeds in the compressor head. I Put the service kit in mine, still not working right because of the reeds not set right yet.

The compressor cannot raise a fault code, but if it does not produce pressure, the car will not rise as commanded by the EAS ECU and that is what produces the hard fault.

by the sounds of it is what happened data, and would explain as earlier said once or twice in the past few weeks has been very slow to raise up but sometimes been ok

just off now for a drive to pick up the re build kit, then to see doz on the way back, and hopefully arrive back home this arvo with a re built compressor put it in and be back on the road

thanks to doz and a bit of a road trip to get the parts, he re built the compressor and its now like brand new, all operating fine and better than it was before, pumps up real fast now and seems excellent

tomorrow il do the soapy water test on the bags and have a look if i can see any leaks or anything

thanks doz, and everyone else on here, this place really is a credit to its members always happy to help and a wealth of advice, i salute you

Check the bags PDQ as it is most likely that a leak caused the compressor to fail.

whats that exactly and how do i check ?

im hoping it was just wear and tear, the compressor looked like one from a scrappy had writing on it, possible it was an old unit removed from a breaker by a previous owner and swapped over , and it jjust gave up the ghost, i hope anyway theres no further issues

edit- whats the PDQ ?? 8 years/80k , 2 years ago they were all like new and replaced about 2.5 years ago i think it was, i rarley off road or abuse the car etc so im presuming and hoping they are all still good, il get under tomorrow and have a good look

The air springs (airbags) have a design life of 7/8 years 80K miles, perished airbags are the main cause of compressor failure as it has to keep up with the leaks.
Look at my airbag replacement guide in the How To section, there are some photo's of perished airbags. Soapy water may or may not show the leaks depending where the leaks are.

is it also good practise to clean the struts ? they looked a little gunky
If they look gunky, it's probaly because they are shagged, never cleaned mine and they have never looked like they need cleaning since I replaced them.

had a good look today ,. lots of soapy spray water etc, had a good look at them and no leaks at all and all the bags still look lovely and new- no cracking or perishing of the rubber at all anywhere, its all operating fine pumps up fast and holds fine no sinking overnight

so do i take it all its all sweet now and put it down to just the compressor wear and tear giving up the ghost ?

Good Test would be to get it to Extended Height, turn ignition off and open the door, leave open then open passanger door and remove the EAS Delay Timer from under the passanger seat....

Then close all the doors and measure the height of each corner, then lock it up for the night.

Come the morning, and remeasure the corners, if it has dropped you have a leak!
