since we have been hit with the cold snap of weather my air suspension seems to be taking an age to get up to normal ride height, before the cold weather arrived it worked great. could it be affected by the cold? i was wondering if the air being compressed is damp and the moisture in it is freezing, part blocking airbag inlets?

is anybody else suffering with any eas cold weather symptoms??

had a listen under car today and can hear no leaks??

Hi

had the same happen to me today car lowered down after the ride back to Jersey and took and age to get back up to normal ride hight once warmed up all ok up and down at normal just a few sec through the hights.

funny old things but was relieved when it went back up and stopped flashing at me on the dash.

Tony:)

diddo! having the exact symptoms was 100% before the cold snap. im assuming its down to the cold snap. im starting my car as long as i can beofre i go anywhere and let it warm up with the door open and let the compressor fill up before driving off.

Interesting mine has been behaving very strangely if I go over a speed bump it goes from normal to high then back down again very odd

Same here. I have noticed a couple of EAS weirdities occur (in amongst all the other non EAS weirdities ;)) in the cold too.........

If your P38 is over ten years old, get rid of the EAS, the rubber bags become brittle in cold conditions and cracks will appear, leaking air from them, its warm here:)

No don't get rid of the EAS fix it. It will be cheaper if you DIY than fitting coils and losing the benefits of the air suspension.

Rebuilt your EAS and you'll be fine for 10 years or even more. Airsprings become brittle with age... New airsprings do not have any problem in the cold.

i dont think me EAS needs a rebuild, i think the air might be freezing in the compressor. its getting to -6 easily here for more than 14hrs a day and ive only driven for about 30 mins each day the last few days

I have my p38 since 10 years and never had the issue you're talking about. Drove it during winter in the Alps or Vosges ( coldest place of France where -6F is pretty common) without that kind of problem. Rangerovers.net Bulletin board has members from various freezy locations such as Canada, Island, Norway and Sweden...Nobody complains about that design fault.

the EAS all 4 bags were changed in the last 12 months, i squirt tested all the lines changes all the culletts a few weeks back. to to be fair the EAS is in decent condition.

the fact that a few people reported the same thing on the same day for the same apparent reason its got to be weather related,

You've almost done all the work except the valve block rebuild. What you and others experienced this day is of course temperature related. If your valve block o-rings are brittle and flat, the thing leaks badly in the cold but not in warm temp. Consequence is that your EAS tank is empty in the morning. The fact that you had to wait several minutes to reach height tells all the thing. You had lost pressure due to leaks over the night. I had same issue years ago before rebuilding my vb and it begun to fail in october IIRC. I would add that your compressor performs better in that kind of ext temp than on a hot and sunny day.

sorry my mistake i ment to say air tank,

but i take on board what your saying. this morning it was actually fine as soon as i started up the RR it was fine. ill see how it goes for now.

I reckon you need to change the air dryer, moisture condenses out more easily at low temperatures. Compressor heats the air as it compresses it, warm air absorbs moisture, then when it reaches the cold bits it condenses out if it has not been trapped by the dryer. Might also be worth checking that there is no condensate in the air tank.

I had no trouble with mine last winter when we recorded -17C and no trouble this year so far down to -2C.

is there a drain line on the air tank? i think its got to be down to temps as was great just a few days before.
