Ok, i realise this issue has been flogged to death and yes ive read through many many threads already but ive encounted that many possibly fixes i want to tell you my issue to see if i can wittle it down a bit.

As titled my "air susp inactive" light is on. When i travel at high motorway speeds for any length of time the " HDC inactive " and ABS/TRACTION CONTROL lights illuminate too. These do go off when turning off/turning on the car but " air susp inactive " stays on all the time, and the suspension is locked in ride height.

Right, i can tell you my steering wheel is slightly off centre (approx 5-7mm) its has 22 inch alloys fitted and the battery went flat ( through my own fault leaving things plugged in charging over night by accident ) but i will stress this was happening BEFORE the battery went flat. The previous owner tells me he replaced the battery approx 8 months ago too.

My friend has cleared these codes for me many times but its only two to three weeks max before they return.

Can anybody direct/advise as to the exacty fix before i start throwing cash left right an centre at wrong parts?

First - did you reset the steering angle sensor??conds, turn to opposite lock and hold for 3 seconds then back to centre....this will reset the SaS and should cancel the warnings...The reason for this is the systems concerned use Steering Angle information - if the sensor hasn't been reset following battery removal or a flat battery - the systems won't know what to do so will throw a fault....

Secondly - Check your ABS sensors and sensor wiring - reason is same as above, those systems use Wheel speed info to ensure the ABS works, to monitor wheel speed during hill descent and traction control and the EAS system goes down as it is linked to the same Databus as the others (oddly).....there are reports of the ABS sensor wiring getting chaffed on the wheel rim during turns esp. on the large rim sizes so thoroughly check the condition and routing of the ABS sensor wiring....
 
Thanks for the reply. How exactly do i reset the angle sensor ? ive tried a lock to lock thingy with no joy. Is there a particular way it has to be done ? Ive read that it needs taking off completely and resetting? Also ill check the ABS sensors and wiring this week to check if thats the cause but my limited ideas are seemingly focused on my steering wheel not been straight. The only thing thats takes my focus away is the fact that its the air susp that is constantly failed NOT the HDC warning message :confused:
 
When the faults were cleared were they cleared by a diagnostic computer or by a fault code reader?

As stated, immediately after clearing the fault codes with a diagnostic computer you have to turn the steering from lock to lock to recalibrate the steering angle sensor.

Most of the rangies I have to reset the codes on show an overheating of the motor and/or a sticky or over stretched ride height sensor.
 
Could be a dicky height sensor....

I had similar too - first error was dodgy ABS wiring throwing faults - then after a bit of rain and a few puddles, water had got into the rear height sensor plug....removed, dried, cleaned the plug, put back job done!!

No need to remove the SaS, that is only if replacing a failed one....

In order to reset it, make sure the wheels are central - then turn engine on, turn full ock to the left and hold for 3 seconds, then all the way to the right and hold for three seconds, then back to the middle....lights should go out - but remember the Air Susp. Inactive message will remain until you turn off the car, wait for the display to reset - turn car back on again and it should be gone!!

ok ill retry the sensor reset but do i need to do it straight after clearing fault? Does it make a difference if i use a fault code reader or diagnostic computer ratty? one other question ive read something about a relief valve in the boot on the compressor that needs checking/cleaning any advise on that? where are the height sensors and how do i check them? thanks

'tis all in there...

Height sensors are attached to the suspension links and the subframe...on all 4 corners obviously.

I've not had to clear faults before resetting the angle sensorbut then again, I've only had to reset it following battery disconnection.
 
ok ill without resetting an if not after resetting mate. how do i tell if the height sensors are faulty? also wat about the relief valve i mentioned ? thanks

Check cables to height sensor plugs as one of mine the cables had perished into the sensor plug

I also had a height sensor that snapped off
Check there not bent or broken as they can get caught on things
 
As mentioned - get RAVE it is all in there...

top man thanks alot ! one thing i forgot to ask when i reset angle sensor will that make my steering wheel straight ????

The relief valve should have been changed for a new one with a hole in it. Usually the suspension height gets stuck at max height when the relief valve blocks. As yours is stuck at normal height I don't think it's your issue.
 
Ok just a quick update ive done the steering angle reset thingy tried it a couple of times but to no avail so will keep looking at the other things you guys mentioned !
 
UPDATE: ive just had the 900amp battery tested an its giving a reading of 745 amp an a voltage of 12.36v without engine running. Are these good readings ? Thanks
 
Thanks so thats the angle sensor reset tried an battery checked so just sensors to try now. Should i get the steering tracked to straighten the steering wheel ? Thanks
 
Check sensors and you may need your EAS calibrating

Obviously get your tracking fixed or your tyres won't last long
