Does any one have any experience with export/re-import into uk?

I am looking at this 110 on eBay: LINK

I am primarily looking at it short term as a donor to convert my rebuilt hard top into a station wagon for the baby that is on the way. But in time in the future (at some point) I would look to rebuild (possibly into a hard top using my rebuilt tub) if I can get a v5. Without a v5 there is no point but wouldn’t want to break a full vehicle if possible. The issue is it has been “exported” but never actually left. Quote from the ad:

“Getting the V5 log book could be a bit long winded as I've applied for the V5 log book a year ago, but was told it had been exported and needed to speak to NOVA, yet we know it never left the country and spoke to NOVA who confirmed by email there are no import taxes to pay, I can provide a copy of the email etc. DVLA still haven't provided us with the V5 saying we need to register it with NOVA, I've now decided to sell it. I've got copies of all correspondence with DVLA and NOVA and am happy to provide them.”

I am not familiar with the import or export process at all as have never done it. Can anyone shed some light on if it would be possible and if so how difficult it would be to get a v5?
 
Could you just have this inspected by dvla for the log book ? They may inform you then if it’s got taxes on it due to export.

That is kind of the question I am asking. Knowing nothing about it if getting a v5 is just a case of a getting a Dvla inspection i have no issue. If it more involved and there is a chance I can’t get one etc then The whole things becomes less appealing.

The SIL had a motor shipped over from OZ with no paperwork. Motor was never registered in Oz. When shipped back chap from dvla came out & inspected it. Confirmed chassis number etc and paperwork has now been resolved.
Was funny as when the motor first arrived it was stripped down & the inspection said it would need to look like it arrived so was loosely Rebuilt.

As for the linked motor it would be cheap for parts without a V5
 
It’s a complete pain to get an import tractor registered, dvla are just so ignorant and unhelpful, it can be done it they won’t make it easy!
 
A friend rode his Unregistered newly imported bike to Norwich a bloke looked at it and the V5 came in the post 10days later.
But that was in the good ole days :) .

But if it has paperwork then I would get a look at it, and copies and then spend an hr waiting to speak to somebody at DVLA.
Took me a year to change the frame number on a bike with a few phone calls (typo on original paperwork).

But the biggest question would be were was it "supposedly" exported to and would there be any duties due to re register in the UK now?

I am glad you agree. That was my first impression but wasn’t sure if I was missing something. I agree even as a spares donor vehicle it seems reasonable priced. And if I can get a v5 to rebuild in the future makes it an absolute bargain.

Many thanks to others. It sounds like although there is the standard issues with the Dvla it is potentially not impossible to get a v5. Just depends what taxes/duties are due but the listing does say nova have confirmed there is nothing to pay.
 
Sounds like a head ache.. the owner should've lodged a complaint after 3 months and got it fully investigated.. chances are no one is assigned to giving this a log book as the owner probs applied and they just rejected it due to the export label. Getting the log book is possible but it all depends on the circumstances right.. take all the evidence you can get off this owner if you go for it..
 
The export certificate does not exist anymore why not fill in the lost V5 change of ownership cert and if they question it they can come and inspect...why NOVA cert is required is doubtfull as you are not notifying them of the vehicle arriving in the UK...I had/have a similar prob here as 101 is still on export cert which no longer exists and is still in previous owners name who didnt reg it here but have got cert here from IMT nearly got there then covid hit total shut down and still big back log to clear about to start process again...

Probs on the DVSA side previous owners already sent off the export vehicle part. So from the DVSA side it looks like the car has been exported.

Well I bought the 110 so my first job before spending money on it or beginning to strip/repair is to try and sort the paper work. I have a file of paperwork from the previous owner so will go through that and post on this thread all of the (I am sure many) questions I will have regarding the process. Form speaking to the previous owner NOVA are happy and no taxes or duties are owed but the DLVA have still not issued a V5.

My plan is to get a v5, and concurrently repair the rear body (sills, cappings etc) (I will start a new thread for that).
Once fully repaired I will then paint it red.
Finally I will swap my tub for the fully repaired station wagon body as that should be a "quick" process as all repair work is already done meaning mine is off the road for the shortest amount of time possible. should just be a lift one off and lift the other on (oh if only it was that easy!)

Finally if I get a v5 I will then rebuild this one in to a hardtop in slow time fitting the 200tdi that was in the fire (once I have rebuilt it) and possibly even with my son (who is due December) depending on how long the first few steps take me! if I do not get a v5 I will break for spares and turn my hardtop rear tub and the back half of the chassis into a trailer.
 
I reckon once you've taken the bits you want from it and rebuilt it as a hard top (so no originality points left to add value) you're probably better off building a trailer and breaking the remains for spares. A 110 hard top makes a great box trailer for camping, especially if painted to match the towing landy- which yours would be as it used to be the towing landy! Only thing to watch is brakes as you should have proper over-run trailer brakes.

It consisted of a phone call with the dvla which informed me I needed to complete the import form, a sorn form, and include a cover letter explaining why I did not have export paperwork from another country to accompany the import forms. Also because it still existed in the dvla system there would not be an import charge.
Having completed this and sent it off at the beginning of December I received my v5 in the post today!

It is registered as an estate so a proper station wagon. And I don’t know if that still makes a difference with the lez zones but know it did when they first came in. Although by the time have finished rebuilding and it back on the road I will probably be historic!
